Gal Meets Glam Regina Dress

I am obsessed with how the skirt on this Gal Meets Glam Regina dress twirls! Honestly, I’m obsessed with everything about this dress. The red orange color, the square neckline, the sleeve, the pockets, and the full skirt. It is so fun and so elegant and so wonderful! I could wear it every day, all day and feel like a movie star. I think this dress is very Mrs. Maisel approved, don’t you?!

Gal Meets Glam Regina Dress

The fabric on the dress is a light crepe, and it’s lined, so it’s perfect for summer. It holds its shape without having any extra weight, and it feels light on. I’d say it is true to size, though if you are in between sizes go down. The darting is quite generous if you have a larger top, and the cinched in waist is very flattering. In addition, the neckline and sleeve are very bra-friendly. The color of this dress is a bright orange-red, which I love! It is so bright and cheerful for summer, and would also be perfect around the holidays.

Dress / Pumps / Earrings / Bag

I paired it with my Chanel dupe pumps and my scallop statement earrings. These oversized shell earrings (called Mermaid earrings!) are so light they feel like you don’t have anything on, and I love how fun they are! ! I think they make the dress look day time appropriate and summer-y. I would wear it with some pearl studs or shiny statement earrings for night time, or in the winter.

Just look at how it twirls! I can’t wait to wear the Regina to go dancing!

May Reading List

Tuscany

I feel like May flew by but was also rather long. Anyone else? One positive side effect of that phenomena is that it was full of so many good books! I’ve been in a reading habit lately where I either tear through a book or it takes me a week or two. This month was no exception, though I really enjoyed most of the books (regardless of how long it took to read). I’m hoping June is as successful from a reading standpoint, fingers crossed!

Ghosted - 4/5 -  This is a mystery romance centered around a woman who dates a man for a week, falls in love, and then stops hearing from him. She is convinced that something bad happened to him, but all of her friends try and convince her to move on because he’s just not that into her. The book is sweet, a little sad, and kept me on my toes. The twist near the end of the book completely took my by surprise, which is hard to do!

Next Year in Havana - 4.5/5 -  This is a love story that takes place in the present age and also right before Castro took over the island. I didn’t know much about that period in Cuban history, and I feel like I learned so much about the island then and now. I loved feeling like I was stepping into the past, and the love stories were very poignant. If you like romance and historical fiction this one is for you.

The Light We Lost - 4/5 - I think I should start by warning you that this book was so sad. It’s about a couple that falls for each other in college and keep leaving and entering each other’s lives. It was very compelling, I couldn’t put it down, and I think it had some very insightful things to say about different types of love and relationships. I highly recommend, it, but have a box of tissues close by!

The Other Woman - 3/5 - This book centers on a young woman in London who met her dream man and can’t wait to get hitched - the only glitch is his mother, who hates her and will stop at nothing to break them apart. There are a few twists at the end, one of which I guessed and the other one took me completely by surprise. It was a fast paced read that I enjoyed, but I give it 3/5 instead of higher because the main character really bugged me sometimes.

The Immortalists - 3/5 - In this novel four siblings go to see a psychic when they are young kids in NYC. The psychic gives them each the day of their deaths, and the prediction shapes the rest of their lives. The book questions the idea of fate, and destiny, and how much predictions come true versus us making them come true. It was a bit of a slow read, but I thought that the author made the characters emotions come alive in a heartfelt and beautiful way. If you want a book that makes you ponder I recommend it.

Happy Friday

Washington DC Sculpture Garden

Happy Friday everyone! What a week - fitting five days of work/appointments/chores… into four always makes for a fast yet busy time. These past few weeks have been so full, and I’ve felt like I have so many plates spinning in the air, it’s let to a few less blog posts. I’m sorry about that! Give Me All The Ruffles

Lilly Pulitzer Skort

The second I saw this ruffled skort I knew I needed to add it to my summer wardrobe. The wrap around ruffle and the pink seersucker make me feel like a ballerina. Plus, I love that the skort looks a little dressier than plain shorts but is just as easy and convenient to walk around town in. Just add in sneakers and a white top and you are good to go all day, from day to night!

I put it to the test on Memorial Day, and walked all around D.C. and scooted around to the Arlington Cemetery. The Lyft scooters are so fun! You use the Lyft app to rent scooters, and then zip all around. The National Mall is the perfect place to use them too; the roads are smooth and wide, and there is so much to see along the way!

Maison Kayser D.C.
Lilly Pulitzer Skort

Before the monuments and the scooters we started the day off at our favorite breakfast place, Maison Kayser. We first went to Maison Kayser when we were in Paris on our honeymoon, and it is just as delicious in the states! I highly, highly recommend the baguette with jam and butter. So simple and so delicious! If you are in NYC they have a few locations there, and they have two in Washington D.C., including one by the National Mall.

Tee / Tank / Skort / Sneakers / Sunglasses / Backpack

How cute is the fact that there is a ramp for the ducks to get into the fountain by the National Sculpture Garden?!! I paired the skort with both this lace ruffled tank and my go to tee. I loved the tank, but once we started scooting around I wanted my shoulders covered so I put on a t-shirt. I also wore my trusty Supergas - these have been my go to sneakers for years! They are so comfortable and cute! Even Kate Middleton agrees ; )

Are you excited about ruffles too? I didn’t used to like them, but this year I can’t get enough!

Shrimp and Angel Hair Pasta

shrimp and angel hair pasta

On Sunday night J.D. whipped together the most delicious pasta dinner for us! It was so yummy and so easy to make, I knew after my first bite it would become a family recipe that I had to share with all of you! If you live a light and easy Italian dinner, you’ll love this!

Ingredients:

1 box angel hair pasta

1 lb shrimp (I love the frozen shrimp from Trader Joe’s)

1 chopped portabella mushroom cap

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 lemon

Splash white cooking wine

1 bag cherry tomatoes, halved

shredded Parmesan cheese

1 bunch arugula

Sauté the garlic in olive oil. Add in the tomatoes, mushroom and shrimp, along with the wine and lemon. Cook at a simmer until the shrimp are cooked through and season with salt and pepper. Right before the pasta is done add in the arugula. At the same time bring a pot of water to boil and cook the pasta according to the box instructions. Plate the pasta and add the shrimp sauce. Sprinkle with parmesan. Voila!

Whats your go to dinner?

Healthy Banana Bread Recipe

healthy banana bread recipe

Yesterday I woke up to bananas that were beyond repair (i.e. too ripe to even drink in a smoothie) and I decided to transform them into banana bread instead of discarding them. When I realized I was out of flour I decided to make it extra healthy banana bread and use some whole wheat flour I had in the back of the cabinet. I’m pleased with how it turned out! It has a nice nutty taste, while still being sweet, and tastes particularly delicious with cream cheese! Here’s the recipe -

5 very ripe bananas

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/8 tsp sea salt

Mash bananas in a large mixing bowl. Stir in the egg and vanilla. Add in remaining ingredients and mix well (you can whisk together the dry ingredients in a separate bowl, but you don’t have to). If you like you can also add in walnuts and chocolate chips.

Pour into a well greased loaf pan and bake at 350 for 50 minutes. Voila! A delicious and healthy breakfrast : )

Fun Finds for Memorial Day Weekend

It’s almost the unofficial start of summer! Is it just me, or did spring go by in a blink? I think it’s because Memorial Day is before the technical start of summer, so it actually is less time…either way I’m excited to wear white ;)

We haven’t nailed down all of our plans for the vacation weekend, but I know I will be sitting by the pool with a pina colada at some point and definitely enjoying the sunshine and some good food. Looking through all the bright and colorful releases at stores right now, not to mention the sandals (!!!) made me so excited for the holiday and for all the summer nights ahead! Here’s what I’m particularly loving -

Memorial Day Weekend Finds

One - Woven St. Barths Earrings - I love the texture these earrings add to any outfit. Plus the neutral color goes with everything, while still adding interest to an outfit.

Two - Lilly Pulitzer Larsen Shift - I love how patriotic and festive this shift is. It’s perfect for the 4th too!

Three - Heart Sunglasses - I love a pair of trendy statement sunglasses for only $25, don’t you?

Four - Flag Jack Rogers - Can you get more patriotic than American flag Jack Rogers? I think not.

Five - Red Jumpsuit - You guys know I love red, and it is such a great color for summer (especially the holiday weekends). Aren’t the ruffles on the sleeves just darling?

Six - Gal Meets Glam Alma Dress - I love the gingham on this dress! Isn’t the green color so pretty? It also looks so summery yet so unique.

Seven - Citrus Bag - Can you get more summery than a yellow and orange citrus beaded bag? Nope.

Eight- Heart Beaded Earrings - These earrings come in lots of colors and add such a great pop of color!

Nine - Floral Jumpsuit - I love the ruffles on this jumpsuit and also the cool statement back!

Ten - Woven Bag - This handbag looks like a work of art!

Eleven - Jeweled Jelly Shoes - I mean, how fun are these?!

Twelve - Madewell Slide Sandals - These are the perfect neutral sandal to go with every summer outfit. I think a nice cognac sandal is a wardrobe staple!

Thirteen - J.Crew navy woven sandals - I’m always on the lookout for a good pair of summer sandals with a low heel. I think these are so pretty and unique, and the heel height is perfect!

Fourteen - Salma Dress - This is one of Tuckernuck’s new designs and I love how easy breeze it is, and the red triangles are so unique and pretty!

Fifteen - Fan Tassel Earrings - I love this periwinkle color! And I also love that they add drama to an outfit without being heavy.

Sixteen - Sam Canvas Bag - This bag comes in a navy that I love too. The Sam shape is great because it fits all of your essentials, including an iPad, without being bulky.

What are you doing this Memorial Day Weekend?

A Day at Mount Vernon

A Day at Mount Vernon

Once the warm weather hit DC we decided to get back into the swing of sightseeing and doing more “tourist” activities again. The city has so much to offer and I feel like we have barely scratched the surface! At the top of our list was a day at Mount Vernon. I love touring historical homes, and Mount Vernon is just gorgeous and most of it is original. Plus, George Washington slept there! As a history buff I don’t know if you can top that…

A Day at Mount Vernon

We just loved it (in fact we became members so we can return all year round). I had been in high school for a quick visit, but I didn’t remember how large the property is. On top of the home itself there are acres and acres of gardens and farmland, even a working mill. The in the gardens flowers are from all over, because Washington used to receive exotic seeds as gifts. Plus, the restaurant is delicious and so very charming. I highly recommend the peanut soup.

I couldn’t wait to wear this new navy dress. I love that it has a cap sleeve and embroidery detailing, and that the fabric is light and has a lovely drape. The pops of yellow make me very happy too - I couldn’t wait to pick up these yellow earrings to pair it with. They are very light and didn’t bother me after wearing them all day both Saturday and Sunday. I think yellow might be my color of the summer; I can’t wait to pair these earrings with lots of yellow prints. It’s just such a sunny color!

I can’t wait to return to Mount Vernon when my parents come in July. I bet it looks super patriotic then! I’m also looking forward to reading more about George Washington. The fact that he voluntarily relinquished power is so impressive (and rare). The book 1776 looks like a good place to start. Do you have any biography recommendations?
