The New Glossier Headquarters

The New Glossier Headquarters

While we were in NYC last weekend I had the opportunity to visit the new Glossier showroom. Guys, it’s gorgeous! It’s basically a living Instagram post (which I’m sure was a big part of the design) and I loved exploring and swatches the new products I haven’t seen in person. I was also really impressed with the staff/customer interactions. There was a line to get into the store, and they had several employees outside greeting everyone, talking about products, and handing out free sunscreen to use! It was a great way to get everyone interested in shopping the brand.

I swatched a ton of products while I was there and I’m really excited about some new lip makeup! I loved the way that the new formula of Generation G in Zip looked, it’s such a great summer red and goes on sheer (and builds to as intense a red as you want) and also the red Vinylic Lip color. Online it looks like it’s going to be extremely red, but in person it is a thin stain. Think, natural Disney Princess lips. It looks like a great, fun color for summer and sundresses!

Love the mood boards!

There were lots of Millenial pink flowers all over the showroom. It’s one of my favorite flower colors : )

Look at that line! Beauty customers mean business!

Have you been to any of Glossier’s showrooms in person? Or tried any of their new products? I can’t wait to report back with pictures of me wearing the lip products! And don’t forget you get 10% off your first Glossier order with my rep link : )

Happy Friday!

Georgetown bunny rabbits

Did you all have a nice week? It was a beautiful one here in D.C. The birds were chirping, the sun was shining and I even saw a bunny on the park! I’m hoping the good weather holds up this weekend. We are heading up to NEw York to visit family and I’m crossing my fingers the sun is out to go to Coney Island. It looks like so much fun in movies, I really want to see it myself! And hopefully the Glossier headquarters, but we’ll see how much tolerance JD and his brother have…lol

A Special Take on Chocolate Covered Strawberries

chocolate ganache strawberries
chocolate ganache strawberries

Over the weekend strawberries were buy one get one at my grocery store and I scooped them up before I was sure what I would do with them. They just looked so delicious! Before I was done picking up my groceries I knew I had to use them for chocolate covered strawberries, using the ganache I used to cover my madeleines with. Well, I’m happy to report they tasted delicious and took less than five minutes to make!

Here’s what you need: 1 pint strawberries, 1 cup chocolate chips, 1/2 tbsp olive oil, sprinkle of sea salt.

Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time until mostly melted. Stir in the olive oil and salt until everything is combined and melted together. Dip the strawberries in the chocolate and let dry on a plate for about 5 minutes. Enjoy!

The olive oil and sea salt really elevate the chocolate, making it taste extra decadent and delicious. I can’t wait to make more with my remaining strawberries!

How To: Full and Natural Looking Brows

One of the biggest things I’ve learned about the effects makeup can have in a face is what a difference your eyebrows can make to the way you look. The same person with thin eyebrows versus bush brows versus fluffy brows looks completely different! It’s remarlabke, really. Eyes might be the windows to the soul, but the eyebrows are the drapes. : )

For my own face I’ve become a big fan of full, groomed brows. I like they way they frame my face, and look natural yet polished. The achieve the look I really on two products (plus a pair of Tweezerman tweezers!) - brow gel and brow filler. I’ve used a number of products over the years, and some of my favorite are the Glossier ones. I think Glossier has really nailed my favorite brow look from the beginning, and has been a big force in popularizing the groomed yet fluffy brow look. For a long time now their Boy Brow product has reined supreme (I love brown) and they just added a new product that I’m so excited to try - Brow Flick!

Brow Flick is a brow penwith a brush tip (like a pen liquid eyeliner) that allows you fo fill in your brows with light strokes so they look naturally fuller. It’s water-resistant to last all day, and comes in three sheer shades - blonde, brown and black. The sheer color means the shades can be layered till they match your brow color. It pairs great with Boy Brow, which grooms and sets your brows for the perfect finishing touch.

Brow Flick is $18, or you can save $4 when you buy it with Boy Brow. Plus you save 10% off your first Glossier order with my rep link!

Sorry I was a little MIA this week! I thought I had scheduled a post, but it got scheduled to a section of the website that isn’t visible (#newappproblems) and then, honestly, the daily logistics of life took over. I had to call the dentist like 5 times one day to schedule 2 cleanings, same with the optometrist, etc.. It sounds like not a big deal, but it was stuff like that non-stop all week and it just takes so much longer than you think and truly saps all of my patience and attention span. But, on the bright side, while I was on hold so long I found some fun internet articles, lol. Did anyone else have a week where the smallest items on your to do list take up ALL of your time?

But, back to finding joy : ) Here are some articles that made me smile this week-

Summer Bucket List

Summer Bucket List

The arrival of the summer heat has me day dreaming about all the fun summer activities I want tompartake in this year. Picnics, kayaking, trips to the beach, the list goes on and on! In order to make sure I actually do any of it, I’ve been working on my summer bucket list. Sometimes too many options can just be daunting, you know? A short(ish) list can make it a lot easier to make sure you actually accomplish what you want! So here’s my list:

  1. Take a trip to the beach and go in the ocean

  2. Eat all you can eat crabs somewhere fun

  3. Kayak down the Potomac

  4. Grill Friday night dinner outside

  5. Go on a romantic weekend getaway

  6. Finish knitting my cousin’s wedding afghan

  7. Watch fireworks over the Capital

  8. See a show (Aladdin is coming to town and I think that could be fun!)

  9. Go to a fair and ride the potato sacks

  11. Start wearing SOF in my hands daily

Chocolate Dipped Orange Madeleine Recipe

Chocolate Dipped Orange Madeleine Recipe
Chocolate Dipped Orange Madeleine Recipe

I cleaned up my kitchen cabinets over the weekend and found my madeleine pan that I hadn’t used in a hot minute. I got really excited to test out a new recipe on it, and started dreaming up all the best madeleine taste combinations. JD requested chocolate dipped, so I finally landed on chocolate dipped orange madeleines and boy are they worth the effort! In fact, I’m including a warning with this recipe - it is impossible to eat just one!

Chocolate Dipped Orange Madeleine Recipe

Here re the ingredients -

For cookies:

1/2 cup orange juice

1/3 cup orange zest

3 eggs

1/2 cup sugar

1 cup flour

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp course salt

1 stick butter, melted (plus the amount you need to butter your pan)

1/2 tsp vanilla

For chocolate:

1 cup milk chocolate chips

1 tbsp olive oil

pinch of sea salt

First, simmer the orange juice on the stove in a fry pan until it is reduce by half.

Whip together the eggs and sugar (I used a stand mixer) until the batter is pale and thick enough to fall in ribbons; about ten minutes.

In a separate bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Fold these dry ingredients into the batter, being careful not to overtax. Fold in orange juice reduction, orange zest, melted butter and vanilla.

Refrigerate batter at least two hours (overnight is fine). Preheat oven to 350 while the batter stands at room temperature. Genergously butter your madeleine pan and spoon in batter until the cups are 3/4 full. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove from pan and let cool.

Melt the chocolate chips by microwaving them for 30 seconds a time until melted. Stir in the olive oil and salt. Dip the madeleines in the chocolate and let cool on parchment paper.

Enjoy!

Have you had madeleines before? Do you love them too?

Gal Meets Glam Regina Dress

Gal Meets Glam Regina Dress
Gal Meets Glam Regina Dress

I am obsessed with how the skirt on this Gal Meets Glam Regina dress twirls! Honestly, I’m obsessed with everything about this dress. The red orange color, the square neckline, the sleeve, the pockets, and the full skirt. It is so fun and so elegant and so wonderful! I could wear it every day, all day and feel like a movie star. I think this dress is very Mrs. Maisel approved, don’t you?!

Gal Meets Glam Regina Dress

The fabric on the dress is a light crepe, and it’s lined, so it’s perfect for summer. It holds its shape without having any extra weight, and it feels light on. I’d say it is true to size, though if you are in between sizes go down. The darting is quite generous if you have a larger top, and the cinched in waist is very flattering. In addition, the neckline and sleeve are very bra-friendly. The color of this dress is a bright orange-red, which I love! It is so bright and cheerful for summer, and would also be perfect around the holidays.

Gal Meets Glam Regina Dress

Dress / Pumps / Earrings / Bag

I paired it with my Chanel dupe pumps and my scallop statement earrings. These oversized shell earrings (called Mermaid earrings!) are so light they feel like you don’t have anything on, and I love how fun they are! ! I think they make the dress look day time appropriate and summer-y. I would wear it with some pearl studs or shiny statement earrings for night time, or in the winter.

Gal Meets Glam Regina Dress

Just look at how it twirls! I can’t wait to wear the Regina to go dancing!

May Reading List

Tuscany

I feel like May flew by but was also rather long. Anyone else? One positive side effect of that phenomena is that it was full of so many good books! I’ve been in a reading habit lately where I either tear through a book or it takes me a week or two. This month was no exception, though I really enjoyed most of the books (regardless of how long it took to read). I’m hoping June is as successful from a reading standpoint, fingers crossed!

Ghosted - 4/5 -  This is a mystery romance centered around a woman who dates a man for a week, falls in love, and then stops hearing from him. She is convinced that something bad happened to him, but all of her friends try and convince her to move on because he’s just not that into her. The book is sweet, a little sad, and kept me on my toes. The twist near the end of the book completely took my by surprise, which is hard to do!

Next Year in Havana - 4.5/5 -  This is a love story that takes place in the present age and also right before Castro took over the island. I didn’t know much about that period in Cuban history, and I feel like I learned so much about the island then and now. I loved feeling like I was stepping into the past, and the love stories were very poignant. If you like romance and historical fiction this one is for you.

The Light We Lost - 4/5 - I think I should start by warning you that this book was so sad. It’s about a couple that falls for each other in college and keep leaving and entering each other’s lives. It was very compelling, I couldn’t put it down, and I think it had some very insightful things to say about different types of love and relationships. I highly recommend, it, but have a box of tissues close by!

The Other Woman - 3/5 - This book centers on a young woman in London who met her dream man and can’t wait to get hitched - the only glitch is his mother, who hates her and will stop at nothing to break them apart. There are a few twists at the end, one of which I guessed and the other one took me completely by surprise. It was a fast paced read that I enjoyed, but I give it 3/5 instead of higher because the main character really bugged me sometimes.

The Immortalists - 3/5 - In this novel four siblings go to see a psychic when they are young kids in NYC. The psychic gives them each the day of their deaths, and the prediction shapes the rest of their lives. The book questions the idea of fate, and destiny, and how much predictions come true versus us making them come true. It was a bit of a slow read, but I thought that the author made the characters emotions come alive in a heartfelt and beautiful way. If you want a book that makes you ponder I recommend it.
