Friday Funday

Happy Fri-yay Everyone! We made it, and next week has only 3 work days!

This week has gone by lickety-split as my mom would say, I think in part because I was so relaxed after a wonderful birthday weekend with my husband. He treated me like a princess the whole time, he is the sweetest kindest husband and I feel so blessed to have him. We both disconnected and enjoyed some quality time together, and it set us up for a great week (and a great start to the holidays I think).

A frozen beverage is always in season in South Florida

A frozen beverage is always in season in South Florida

This week was also full of fun, good books, online shopping and holiday prep. There are a number of things I am excited to share, so here we go-

1. I love all of the Anthopologie holiday decor right now. Everything feels special and charming, and I can't wait to decorate with my favorite pieces.

2. I bought these battery powered tea lights to put in the candle holders we have around the house and I love them! They flicker just like real candles, but there is none of the worry that comes from having an open flame. I think they are especially perfect for large gatherings when there are a lot of people moving and hair swishing.

3. I got this pattern in the mail today from Alicia Paulson and I cannot wait to stitch it while I day dream about walks in the snow and hot cups of cocoa.

4. I might be a little late to the party on this one, but I just watched the Jennifer Lawrence interview Kim KW on Jimmy Kimmel and definitely laughed out loud a few times. I recommend laughing along while taking a nice bubble bath (just don't drop the iPad : )

5. I walked into an Athlete recently and they had another vendor talking about their essential oil diffuser. When I walked by the table my sinuses immediately opened up, no joke. I am now on the hunt for a cute diffuser to use with the oils lavender and stress away (that's what they had going in the store). If you have any diffuser recommendations let me know! It seems like a great way to battle cold and allergy season without medicine.

6. I started buying the pre-made soups at Trader Joes for lunch at work and they're amazing! They are so delicious and healthy and, to be honest, I am so sick of yogurt...

7. I'm really loving the circle bag trend right now. Isn't this one gorgeous?

Thanksgiving Outfit Inspiration

I feel like dressing up for the holidays can be a fun treat, or finding an outfit can seem like another item on an already exhausting to-do list. In effort to take the work out of outfit planning I have put together my favorite pieces that I think will be perfect for Thanksgiving. I sought comfortable, cozy pieces that look chicer than Joey's Thanksgiving pants on Friends

Here are my favorite pieces for an informal Thanksgiving

I think these would be lovely for a more formal holiday

And, finally, fun Thanksgiving accessories!

Crepe Recipe

Mornings are better with homemade crepes, wouldn't you agree? And, they are simple to make! I have tested dozens of recipes, and have finally perfected the perfect at home crepes. They don't look perfect because I don't have a fancy pan, but they taste delicious.

You'll need a blender (I use the NutriBullet), fry pan, a spatula and the following ingredients:

1 cup flour

 2 eggs

1/2 cup milk (I've used almond milk and regular milk without noticing a real taste difference)

1/2 water

 a dash of salt

butter to grease the pan

filling - my favorites are jam and nutella or cheese if it's the afternoon

Combine all of the ingredients into the blender and mix well. You might need to shake it a couple times to ensure that the flour doesn't stick to the bottom.

Next, melt a small amount of butter in the fry pan on medium low heat. Make sure the butter coats the whole pan. Pour some batter, about 1/3 - 1/2 cup, into the pan and tilt the pan so that the batter makes a thin disc. Cook until golden brown, flip, and cook the other side.

Now, remove the crepe from the pan and let it cool on a plate for a few seconds before you add your favorite filling and roll it up.

Repeat all steps with the rest of the batter, and enjoy!

I hope you have a chance to enjoy some crepes some time this week! Let me know if you have any favorite fillings too, I love trying new kinds.

My Current Mascara Routine

I have been getting a lot of compliments on my mascara game recently, so I thought I would share my current secrets. They're pretty simple, and only take an extra 30 seconds. The results are pretty good though! My barre instructor even asked me if I had fake eyelashes on, and that was 8+ hours after I did my makeup.

Here's my routine:

1. I use Benefit's Roller Lash to do a base layer. I am using a travel size, but I like this mascara more than enough that I'll buy the full size when I run out. I try and really get the roots, and the brush on this mascara makes it very easy.

2. I immediately due a heavier coat of Bobbi Brown Eye Opening Mascara

3. After I have finished every other step of my makeup routine I do one more coat with the Eye Opening Mascara, but not as heavy this time.

And that's it! I really like the results, and they don't flake at all before I shower. Plus, the formulas are pretty easy to get off. I use baby shampoo in the shower and rub my eyelids; this normally gets it all, and if not a quick swipe of Bioderma gets the rest.

Lilly Pulitzer Present with Purchase November 11- 12

Lilly Pulitzer is offering presents with purchase in honor of Lilly's birthday this weekend, November 11-12! I saw them in the store already, and I want all of them. The print on the travel themed gifts is really pretty in person, and they all look useful. My favorites are the blanket and duffel. The blanket looks ultra cozy and perfect for road trips and plane rides, and the duffel is the perfect size. It looks big enough to actually fit stuff but not so large that your back hurts lugging it around the airport.

These gifts come at the perfect time because all of the new arrivals are amazing! My favorites are all of the onyx based dresses. I love Lilly in large part because of the feminine fit - the clothes are flattering and never baggy, at least on my hourglass figure. Sometimes in the winter I don't want a super loud print (often I do! but not always) so it's great that there are a lot of quieter options in this new collection that still have that awesome fit.

I rounded up my favorites below. Happy shopping! If there is anything you want, I'd scoop it up quick! The best presents with purchase normally sell out quick

Hunt for the Perfect Nightstands

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 9

1. Castablanca Light Tone Nightstand - I love that this nightstand has a lot of storage. It's a basic classic piece that will match a lot of decor.

2. Kim Marble Shelf Night Stand - This nightstand is such a unique shape! It's a real show stopper that will still fit your night time essentials.

3. Preston Gray Round Nightstand - A classic nightstand that won't over power the rest of your decor.

4. Malone Nightstand - This nightstand is very on trend an so lovely! I'm obsessed with the gold hardware.

5. Lonny Bedside Table - I think this might be my favorite of the bunch. It has a lot of room for storage, including a drawer, and will match just about anything.

6. Genell Sidetable - A class but fun piece that won't break the bank.

7. Devon Campaign Bedside Table - An elevated take on the current camp tent trend. The white will match almost any colored bed.

8. Clara Lattice Wide Bedside Table - I like the lattice detailing and the extra molding. I think  this nightstand would go perfectly with a bed and dresser that have simple clean lines to add some extra detail.

9. Curved Terrace Nightstand - Another metal and marble nightstand. Can you tell I enjoy this trend? I think it adds a bit of pizazz to a room that is generally full of heavy wooden furniture.

Hearth and Hand with Magnolia

Magnolia launched a line at Target this weekend and I love all of the pieces. Chip and Joanna's Magnolia brand is full of stylish yet charming pieces, by which I mean nothing seems overly chic or trendy. Instead they all feel like they were designed with love. We are currently in the process of decorating our home, and I think that a number of their pieces are going to make their way into our apartment. Our mantra is to purchase nicer furniture pieces that will last for decades, and cheaper decor items that can be replaced without guilt. I don't know that I will want to replace any of these Magnolia items any time soon, I just love them, but they all definitely fit into that budget!

If I was you I'd check out the collection fast, Target collaborations are well known for running off the shelves (I waited in line for the Lilly stuff a few years ago...disaster. All I got was a bloody nose and a beach towel).

Here are some of my favorites:

What to Buy with the Sephora Beauty Insider Coupon

Every year I get really excited about the fall Sephora Beauty Insider coupon. Most of the beauty products I buy never go on sale anywhere, so it is such a treat to have a coupon! I normally don't buy any beauty products for a month or two beforehand (the coupon normally comes out the first week of November) and then walk through Sephora/the Sephora website like a kid in a candy store.

Their product offerings have recently gotten so large, I thought I would put together a guide of my favorites right now by category. I love makeup, and spend a bit of time reading reviews and playing with beauty products, so I thought all of my knowledge could be of use to all of you!

1. Nars Laguna Bronzer - I love this bronzer and use it almost every day. It leaves a very natural glow, and the glitter isn't noticeable on the face. Rather it makes it seem glow-y as opposed to your matte bronzer. It also comes with a lot of product, which is nice.

2. Naled 2 Basics - This is a fantastic every day eyeshadow palette. All of the colors are wearable, it does a a highlighted eye, a basic neutral eye, a smoky eye and everything in between. It is also great for travel since it includes all the colors I need and isn't too big.

3. BareMinerals Serum Concealer - This concealer has wonderful coverage and lasts all day. I put it under my eyes (and blend up onto my eyelid) on the sides of my nose and on the sides of my lips.  I also layers well under liquid foundation as well as the original Bare Minerals.

4. Bare Minerals Original Foundation - This has been my favorite foundation for years. It never irritates my skin, is so quick and easy to apply, and I love the coverage (natural yet airbrushed). It also lasts forever and never goes bad.

5.  Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash - This is my base layer mascara. I think the brush is excellent for getting right at the roots, and it lifts lashes as opposed to weighing them down. I also love that it washes off easy in the shower.

6. Bobbi Brown Eye Opening Mascara - This mascara is good for more impact. It makes lashes noticeably thicker and sootier, for more of a fake lash feel. It lasts all day without flaking and is washes of easily (a rare combination). I recommend it layered over Roller Lash

7.  Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector - My makeup artist used this on me at my wedding and I loved the results. It is just so pretty, and is not too glittery. It also lasted all day, and I got married in August in South Florida, so that's saying something. Sephora started carrying it in a travel size too, which I love since highlighter isn't something I use up quickly and save money by buying the smaller size.

8. Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Highlighter - I have been wanting to try this blush for a long time (I love blush) and now that the rose is in the travel size I'm really excited to try it. It's just so pretty! I've swatched it in stores a number of times and it's a very pretty, shimmery blush color.

Value Sets:

1. Fresh Sugar Lip Beauty Box - I love Fresh lip balms. They go on super smooth and are extremely moisturizing. The color pay off varies widely depending on the color, so you can have a sheer lip, a romantic pink. or even a bright red without sacrificing moisture. This kit is a great value and allows you to try so many colors. If you're interested get it quickly - they're holiday kits always sell out very fast.

2. Caudalie Favorites Set - I first tried Caudalie while in France and really like the products (and the branding, not going to lie ha!) The moisture mask is very nice, and I like the texture of the moisturizer when it dries. This kit is great for trying out a number of their most popular products at a reasonable price, or it's great for travel!

3. Fresh Pretty in Pink Lip Gift - Again, I love Fresh! This set is a great price and has three of my favorite colors. I alternate between Rose and Petal almost every day, and use Tulip for night. This kit also makes an adorable stocking stuffer, so I'd stock up for gifts!

4. Burberry Festive Beauty Box - I love Burberry beauty. The products seem so luxurious and fancy, and the quality is really great. This kit allows you to try a few heavy hitters without breaking the bank. Their fresh glow is a great highlighter, I love it layered on top of a powder highlighter or on its own. I also have found their eyeshadow to have an awesome color pay off and to give a sexy sheen.

5. DryBar Fully Loaded - If you are in the market for a new blow dryer this set is a great deal! After a ton of research I have decided to get a Buttercup to replace my dying blowdryer - I love the high speed to try my super thick long hair faster. I use hold me clips all the time, and have yet to use a DryBar hair product I don't like. I haven't used these yet, but since I'm going to get the dryer regardless, I'm very excited to try them!

6. Moroccanoil Hydrating Travel Kit - I love Moroccanoil products. The hydrating hair mask and shampoo/conditioner brought my frizzy dried out hair back to life and I'm a loyal customer now.

7. Kate Somerville All Glow, No Glitter - I love Kate Somerville's face wash, both the Daily Foaming Wash and the Intensive Exfoliating treatment. I have very sensitive skin, and her products, including her Goat Milk Moisturizing Cream, work without irritating it.

1. Amika Perfection Straightening Brush - I am so, so exciting to try this! All of the reviews are awesome, and it made the Into the Gloss top 25 list this year! I really want to up my hair game and start wearing it down more, and I think this will allow me to tame it, without losing volume! I can't wait.

2. Baby Buttercup Blow Dryer - This is a great alternative to the full size if you are hesitant to spend so much money, or are sick of hotel blowdryers / having overweight luggage. I'm going to pick one up for sure, since my husband is insisting on carry on luggage from now on...

3.  Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask - This hair mask is AMAZING at making hair seem silky, the trial size will last a number of washes (I estimate 8 even if you have long hair) and the price, since it's a trial can't be beat. Plus it's in a tube so you don't have to scoop your hands out of a tub. If you have dried out frizzy hair, I highly, highly recommend buying it.

4. Moroccanoil Perfect Defense - This is a new product, their heat protectant spray. I read a great review of it on Gal Meets Glam, and am excited to try it since I love the other Moroccan oil products so much. With the travel size that Sephora carries, it seems like a no risk all reward situation to me!

5. Christophe Robin Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt - If you are like me and get product build up at the roots (a hazard of sulfate free shampoo I think), then this stuff should be great! Bye bye build up. Plus, if it doesn't work for you, Sephora has free returns!

6. GHD Classic 1" Straightener - I love this straightener. It's a classic, powerful tool that straightens my hair even in Florida humidity. It also heats up very quickly and stays hot the entire time I do my hair.

Skin care:

1. Foreo Luna Mini - I love my luna. Since I started using it I never get a pimple and it never irritates my skin. The charge also lasts months.

2. Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel - This peel is great. Even my dad noticed a difference when I used it after 2 days! Plus, again, it never irritates my skin.

3. Clinique Even Better Essence Lotion - This essence packs a hydrating punch at a fraction of the cost of the SK-II one. When paired with a basic moisturizer skin feels dramatically more hydrated, and the bottle lasts a long time.

4. Bite Beauty Lip Mask - I love using this at night. It smells divine and my chapped lips (I have a bad habit of biting them) feel healed in the morning. With the dry winter weather ahead I'd call this one a must buy! And, if you wear it in the day, it has a lipgloss like sheen but is moisturizing instead of drying.

Our Stay at the Château La Chenevière

For three days of our Honeymoon we stayed at the Château La Chenevière. It was magical. My husband got the recommendation from a work colleague, and it surpassed all our high expectations. First of all, the landscape is breath taking. The French countryside it simply gorgeous and the coastal town of Port En Bessin felt like we were walking through a picture book.

The hotel itself is very lovely. It feel very romantic and includes tennis courts, a heated pool, a library, a basement that felt like a room in the Great Gatsby, and plenty of outdoor seating. We stayed in the room at the very top, and it had a massive tub and windows that opened out like a character in Beauty and the Beast. Suffice it to say I was in heaven.

The Château La Chenevière offers amazing food for every meal of the day. The bread and butter were divine, the cocktails were delicious, the five course meal was one of the best I ever ate (the other being the Ritz in Paris) and the room service of brie and bread and butter made my life. On top of this there are amenities like bicycles to ride into town, the staff as speak English, and there is a beautiful garden that the chefs use to cook the wonderful food.

Our whole stay was magical and we hope to one day go back. If you are looking to stay in Normandy, we highly recommend the Château La Chenevière!

NB: there was a palm tree by the pool. Is anyone else astounded by this fact? I couldn't believe there was a palm tree so far north!

What I'm Excited About This November

I decided to start my first blog series, and I'm really excited about it! Every month I'm going to round up all of the things I'm excited about, from book releases to movies to clothes to exciting events and share them with all of you. I hope that the series helps you to find new and exciting things to do and explore, and that you share some of the things that you are excited about too. I hope you enjoy, I can't wait to hear your feedback!

1. The Sephora Beauty Insider coupon. I got mine in the mail already and I am pumped! I did a full roundup of all the things I'm excited about purchasing, and highly recommend, that will go live on Friday. Stay tuned!

2. A new book by Andy Weir titled Artemis. I really enjoyed The Martian, I devoured it in a couple of days. This new book is a "heist story set on the moon." If you haven't read it yet The Martian is about the first manned mission to Mars, and an astronaut who gets left behind. I found it to be just a good story, and even the technical bits were written in an approachable and humorous manner. Hopefully this next book lives up to the last!

3. Celebrating my birthday and Thanksgiving with me husband! He's going to surprise me and I can't wait. I am a person who loves celebrating birthdays, and I feel so blessed to celebrate another year with the love of my life. Add to it our first Thanksgiving together a few days later and I'm over the moon.

4. I'm not going to lie, I love a good Black Friday sale. I'll make sure to round up everything that looks promising and share it with you! Last year I particularly enjoyed Beyond Yoga, Vineyard Vines, J.Crew and Ulta. Also, non-corporate owned Lilly Pulitzer stores can have great sales, even buy one get one half off!

5. The new Avengers movie, Thor Ragnarok. I'm a nerd, what can I say? If you live near an iPic I highly recommend going to see Thor, or any movie for that matter, in the VIP seating on a weekday. If you are a purple member, which is free, there is a major discount on the tickets (about $18 a ticket for 3D) and the viewing experience can't be beat. The seats are plush leather, fully recline, you get a pillow and blanket and full waiter service (and they have awesome food and drinks), and UNLIMITED POPCORN.

6. Butternut squash soup in copious amounts. I love this soup. It is so good and healthy for you! Here's my recipe - 1.5 butternut squashes diced, 2 tablespoons butter, 6 cups chicken broth. Let it all simmer on the stove until the squash is soft, and then blend (I use an immersion blender) and season with salt and pepper. Dinner for the week, done!

7. Continuing this blog :) I'm so excited that people are reading it. It means the world to me. Thank you all so much.
