Memorial Day Weekend

Happy Memorial Day Weekend everyone! Are you doing anything fun? We are going to visit my brother-in-law in NY and I'm so, so excited! I have been really in the mood to go out of town for a few days, and I'm so excited to visit the city and see family. I can't wait to share our trip with you next week! Until then, there are a bunch of other fun things going on -

Memorial Day Weekend in NYC

1. Charlotte Tilbury came out with a line of lipsticks named after royals, and The Duchess (and here's a trio of all of them) looks gorgeous! I'm hoping I find it when I do my inevitable beauty shopping in NYC (I always say I won't and then get sucked in to the enormous Sephora and Bergdorf Beauty Department (not just the highest end brands either, but everything under the sun). 

2. Princess Charlotte sounds just like my cousin's daughter. She rules the roost in our family too! 

3. Handbags - There are so many cute handbags out right now. I really want a new one for summer, though I'm sure I don't need one....Here are some of my favorites 

4. TV to binge - Florida has had so much rainy weather, and this weekend is supposed to continue that trend. When it rainy out I want nothing more than to lie under a soft blanket and watch fun television shows. If your forecast is rainy too, I highly recommend watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Crown, Lost in Space, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Parks and Recreation, Silicon Valley (if no kids are around, to be frank) and The Good Place. Also, Fahrenheit 451 premiered, and Little Women on PBS is supposed to be great. 

5. Also, I finished New Girl. It wasn't my favorite season, but the final scene had me laughing really hard! So, it ended on a great note. 

6. I'm going to get my hair done at a Drybar salon for the first time while we are in NY. I love their products and tools, so I'm really excited to get to experience the salon! I think I'll get the Cosmo, or the Southern Comfort. Even the names are cute!

5 Kitchen Tools That Speed Up Cooking

These five kitchen tools speed up cooking by reducing prep time and cleanup. I cook most nights, and I enjoy it, but on a busy weeknight I am looking to be quick and efficient in the kitchen. Basically, I love a home cooked meal but I don't like being in the kitchen for a few hours on a Tuesday. Since I can't imagine I'm alone in this sentiment I thought you'd like to see some of the cheap tools I use to spend less time in the kitchen without sacrificing on the taste of my meal.

1. Garlic Press - This little gem saves me about 5 minutes a night (which is 35 minutes a week!). Slicing up garlic can be tedious, and this press takes 5 seconds. Plus, I think it's fun to see all the garlic squirt out. 

2.. Herb Scissors - These cut back 5-10 minutes on cooking time for me. We get Hello Fresh boxes and the meals always come with fresh herbs. Trying to chop them with my kitchen knife took at least 5 minutes, if not more, and now it takes 10 seconds. I think it's a game changer for under $10.

3. Herb Stripper - Like the herb scissors, this saves a lot of time preparing herbs. They are only a few dollars, and you can often find them in deals with the herb scissors. If you cook with fresh herbs regularly, I think getting both is highly worth it. Between the two you can save 10 minutes in prep time a night.

4. Splatter Screen - I use a splatter screen over my fry pan whenever I cook meat. It holds the heat in which cut backs on cooking time and it also saves a lot of time in clean up. I think cleaning up dried grease on the stove can take forever, and this prevents all that mess.  

5. Dicer - One chop and your soft vegetables are all set. Can you ask for anything more on a Monday night? Probably, but not having to prep all of those vegetables is still pretty good!

As you guys know from all of my cookie posts I love baking, but I've come to really enjoy cooking as well. I find it fun to experiment over the stove and even more fun to eat a delicious meal after!

Meghan Markle's Wedding Makeup

I loved watching the royal wedding on Saturday. Everything was so beautiful and they way they looked at each other with so much love is so romantic. It is all swoon worthy. Once the wedding was over I kept the feeling going by looking up the symbolism behind various aspects of the ceremony, from the veil to the music to the flowers – basically everything.

Summer Wardrobe Staples

It's only a few days from the official start of summer! Can you believe it? I have been re-organizing my closet and put together a few staple items I'm excited to wear all summer long. I like to ear mark have a few pieces that I know I feel confident and that work for a number of occasions. That way I have outfits ready to go with items I already own if we plan any last minute dinners out or even weekend getaways. It also helps limit compulsive shopping...haha. 

I've put together a few outfits involving a bright bag, statement earrings, skinny jeans, white top, interesting tee, shorts, sandals, and of course some beach items. I hope these help inspire you to create some summer outfits!

Royal Wedding Weekend

is anyone else getting up early to watch the royal Wedding tomorrow? I loved watching Kate and Will’s wedding a few years ago; I remember waking up super early to watch beforevan exam study session, and only wanting to look up royal fashion for the rest of the day. I love British history, especially the royals, so I’m really excited to watch this next wedding.

If I was going I'd wear this dress! Maybe this dress for the after party? I love how it twirls! And here is a perfect fascinator for the occasion. 

I think after the wedding I’m going to be fancy and get a pedicure. This color, Essie's Mixtaupe, looks like the perfect pedicure shade; it's white, but still has a hint of nude. Also, this is my favorite foot cream and hand cream does wonders.

Royal books -  I love reading about the king’s and queens of old, as well as historical fiction novels set at court. Some of my favorites are those by Philippa Gregory, especially The Other Boleyn Girl and The White Queen. The Six Wives of Henry VIII is a wonderful non fiction book, and I also love anything by Alison Weir like this.  

Finally, what post about the royals would be complete without some tea recommendations? If you are looking for some Earl Grey, the new Twining one is wonderful. I also love Harney and Sons Earl Grey, Paris, and Black Current.

Royal Wedding Scone Recipe

Is anyone else excited for the royal wedding on Saturday? In honor of the occasion I’m excited to share my Royal Wedding Scone Recipe. I made these for Kate & William’s wedding and they were delicious, I’m excited to enjoy them again while I watch the festivities! 

This recipe makes about a dozen small round scones. I suggest serving them with jam and Devonshire cream.  

Royal Wedding Scone Recipe

To make: 

Mix together 1 3/4 cup flour, 1/3 cup white sugar, 2 tsp. baking powder, and a dash of salt. Next, use a pastry blender or large fork to cut in 5 tbsp. chilled unsalted butter. Once the butter is fully combined mix in 4 tbsp. orange juice. Finish the dough by adding 1/2 cup chocolate chips. 

On a flat and floured surface roll the dough into a disc about 1/2 inch thick. Use a biscuit cutter or juice glass to cut out the scones. Bake at 400 degrees for 12 minutes, or until golden brown.

The Best Pajama Sets

I don't know about you but I love pajamas! I've been on the hunt for some new cozy pairs for summer, and have found so many adorable pairs! There's nothing like slipping into soft pjs after a long day, wouldn't you agree? And if they are cute, well that brings an instant smile to my face!

1. Cherry Print Cotton Poplin Pajamas - I love the pink and red, and the cherries are so cute! J.Crew Facotry is having a big sale right now, so these are 50% plus 20% off (as is most of the store)

2. Lady Bug Print Pajamas - Aren't the lady bugs cute? I have a few other pairs of Kate Spade pajamas, and they are super soft and wash really well. These come in a capri pant version too. 

3. Room Service Satin Pajamas - First, I think Room Service is an adorable name for a pajama brand. Second, I love the toucan sticking out of the pocket and button detailing. 

4. Lake Pajamas - In the summer I often want a pajama set that combines short sleeves and long pants and they are surprisingly hard to find. This set is supposed to be incredibly soft and the light blue is lovely. 

5. Ruffle camisole sleep set - Isn't the print on these adorable? Plus, they are on sale! 

6. Heather Sleep Set - When I saw these on sale I scooped them up right away, I can't wait for them to come in the mail! They look very cozy, and I don't have a pair with long sleeves and shorts.

7. Vintage Pajamas - I don't think a pajama round up is complete without this classic pair. They look so crisp and classic, like something you'd wake up in at the Ritz in a movie. 

8. Knit Pajama Short Set - To me, this is the classic short sleeve pajama silhouette. The are on sale!, and I saw that Carly gave them a great review in her monthly favorites video. 

9. End-on-End Pajamas - Isn't the contrasting piping lovely on this pair? Plus, once again, they are on sale! 

10. Gingham Set - Finally, you can never ever go wrong with gingham pajamas.

Today I'm excited to share the other Gal Meets Glam dress I bought, the Anne. I love everything about this dress- it feels like a party dress, but the cotton fabric still makes it appropriate for day time errands or brunch dates. I hope she brings it back in other colors and prints, it's so wonderful! On that note, GMG releases new dresses today! I've been blown away by the quality of the dresses, I'm so excited to see what else she created.

The dress pattern of little flowers is so lovely, and the fabric has a nice weight to it so it doesn't immediately crinkle or lay awkwardly. The fit of the dress is true to size. I like that the buttons in the front are faux, so there isn't any problems with gaping. The sash makes it easy to perfect the waist to your waist as well.

Finally, I love the collar. I've always been a fan of a color, and I often wear oxfords and polos. Julia mixed two of my favorite styles, a collar and a floral print to make the perfect dress

To make the dress more casual for day time, I accessorized it with my flat espadrilles. The pink color matched the dress perfectly, and I'm also excited to wear them with cut offs and white tees all summer.

My bracelet is the pearl one by Kiel James Patrick. I think this dress was just asking for pearls, don't you? The KJP pieces are great quality and are made in the USA. I also wore my favorite rose gold aviators.

My Favorite Products for Clear Skin

Today I am excited to share my favorite products for clear skin. The products help to keep my skin hydrated and blemish free, while not irritating my sensitive skin. I find it can be a difficult balance - finding products that cleanse your skin and remove makeup while not being harsh or irritating. After a lot of trial and error, however, I have found a few products that do just that! 

Bioderma Micellar Water

1. Bioderma Micellar Water - I use this as both a toner and a makeup remover. Put a little on a cotton pad and swipe it across your face after the shower. It gets off any remaining makeup, even eye makeup, without stripping the skin. It also doesn't leave an oily residue or clog pores. 

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser

2. Glossier Milky Jelly - I love this face wash. It took me years to find a cleanser that cleansed my skin so I don't get blemishes, but also didn't strip my skin. So many cleansers are so harsh! I used to get red and irritated patches on my face, that I thought were from not cleansing enough, but were in fact from over cleansing. Milky Jelly solved those problems and I always make sure I have extra on hand and bring it when I travel. Foreo Luna for clear skin

3. Foreo Luna - I love this little cleansing device. It's covered in these silicon bristles, and you put on face wash and then massage it in little circles all over your skin until the build in timer buzzes. It's one of those devices that doesn't feel like it's doing anything, and then you realize you haven't had a pimple since you started using it...I highly recommend. They also came out with this mini mini version which looks like a great product to test it out with and travel with!

Happy Mother's Day

What a week! I got knocked out with an ear infection and bad sinuses, which somehow made the week drag by but also made it go super fast, because of the unusual amount of time spent sleeping. Anyways, Happy Mother's Day Everyone! I hope you all get to make new warm memories with your mom's and kids, and have a relaxing and special weekend all around.

I loved the dresses at the Met Gala this year. Some of them are just stunning works of art, even if I wouldn't necessary describe them as classic or pretty. The back of Sarah Jessica Parker's dress made my jaw drop and Yara Shahidi looked stunning as did Alicia Vikander and Kerry Washington. What was your favorite? 

I loved reading Tamora Pierce books when I was younger. Did anyone else? I discovered her young adult fantasy series in junior high and they were some of my absolute favorites. Well, she recently came out with a new book, Tempest and Slaughter. It is about a character I was always curious about and I can't put it down. I think I might take a drip down memory lane and re-read the Wildmagic series. If you are looking for a quick read that are fun, compelling and not at all angsty I highly recommend. 

I know I already posted about this glossier mascara but I'm really excited about it! Last weekend I cracked after buying a dud mascara at the Sephora sale and bought the Chanel volume one, and I can't wait to take it back now. The Glossier one is 50% the price! 

I love finding new brands, especially up and coming names. I have recently seen a number of dresses by Elizabeth McKay and I think they are just darling. I love this print, the buttons on this dress, and the print on these shorts.
