For years know I haven’t had a keychain on my keyring. I don’t like carrying around any extra weight, and most key fobs are so bulky and heavy. Recently, however, I’ve liked the idea of looking into my bag for my keys and seeing something bright and happy instead of black keys against a black lining that I can’t find. I want something light, timeless and cute. Here are all my favorites!
Summer outfits are some of my favorite to style. That are so fun and easy, and the same key pieces can be relied on season after season. I love knowing I can purchase a few classic pieces and look fresh and stylish while walking around in the summer sun every season. Plus, it’s so easy to be bright when you don’t have to put a coat over your favorite top! I also feel like timeless summer staples are so much more attainable than winter clothes - the perfect summer sandal that’s been in style since the 60’s (Jack Rogers Palm Beach sandals!) are so much more affordable than the classic riding boot…anyone else agree?
I always reach for whites, navy, and pops of color. With a statement earring of course! I think of it as a vintage prep ascetic. Here are all of my summer favorites that you can wear season after season, because they never go out of style -
Classic “dress-up dress” - Gal Meets Glam and on sale!!
A striped 3/4 top for breezy nights or days by the ocean
A fun coverup that looks good with all of your swim suits
Fun statement earrings that add a lot of personality to any outfit
An easy sundress that is super comfortable in the heat and appropriate for all occasions
What are you wardrobe staples?
I am obsessed with how the skirt on this Gal Meets Glam Regina dress twirls! Honestly, I’m obsessed with everything about this dress. The red orange color, the square neckline, the sleeve, the pockets, and the full skirt. It is so fun and so elegant and so wonderful! I could wear it every day, all day and feel like a movie star. I think this dress is very Mrs. Maisel approved, don’t you?!
The fabric on the dress is a light crepe, and it’s lined, so it’s perfect for summer. It holds its shape without having any extra weight, and it feels light on. I’d say it is true to size, though if you are in between sizes go down. The darting is quite generous if you have a larger top, and the cinched in waist is very flattering. In addition, the neckline and sleeve are very bra-friendly. The color of this dress is a bright orange-red, which I love! It is so bright and cheerful for summer, and would also be perfect around the holidays.
I paired it with my Chanel dupe pumps and my scallop statement earrings. These oversized shell earrings (called Mermaid earrings!) are so light they feel like you don’t have anything on, and I love how fun they are! ! I think they make the dress look day time appropriate and summer-y. I would wear it with some pearl studs or shiny statement earrings for night time, or in the winter.
Just look at how it twirls! I can’t wait to wear the Regina to go dancing!
The second I saw this ruffled skort I knew I needed to add it to my summer wardrobe. The wrap around ruffle and the pink seersucker make me feel like a ballerina. Plus, I love that the skort looks a little dressier than plain shorts but is just as easy and convenient to walk around town in. Just add in sneakers and a white top and you are good to go all day, from day to night!
I put it to the test on Memorial Day, and walked all around D.C. and scooted around to the Arlington Cemetery. The Lyft scooters are so fun! You use the Lyft app to rent scooters, and then zip all around. The National Mall is the perfect place to use them too; the roads are smooth and wide, and there is so much to see along the way!
Before the monuments and the scooters we started the day off at our favorite breakfast place, Maison Kayser. We first went to Maison Kayser when we were in Paris on our honeymoon, and it is just as delicious in the states! I highly, highly recommend the baguette with jam and butter. So simple and so delicious! If you are in NYC they have a few locations there, and they have two in Washington D.C., including one by the National Mall.
How cute is the fact that there is a ramp for the ducks to get into the fountain by the National Sculpture Garden?!! I paired the skort with both this lace ruffled tank and my go to tee. I loved the tank, but once we started scooting around I wanted my shoulders covered so I put on a t-shirt. I also wore my trusty Supergas - these have been my go to sneakers for years! They are so comfortable and cute! Even Kate Middleton agrees ; )
Are you excited about ruffles too? I didn’t used to like them, but this year I can’t get enough!
These are so many cute summer items on sale right now, which is such perfect timing for summer! I’m excited because the sales include fun items I’ve been talking about the past few weeks! Plus, some summer classics I’ve been wanting for a while (like the classic J.Crew pajamas). Here are all of my favorites -
Aren’t those sneakers adorable? And they are only $38!
What’s your favorite? Have a great Thursday!
It’s almost the unofficial start of summer! Is it just me, or did spring go by in a blink? I think it’s because Memorial Day is before the technical start of summer, so it actually is less time…either way I’m excited to wear white ;)
We haven’t nailed down all of our plans for the vacation weekend, but I know I will be sitting by the pool with a pina colada at some point and definitely enjoying the sunshine and some good food. Looking through all the bright and colorful releases at stores right now, not to mention the sandals (!!!) made me so excited for the holiday and for all the summer nights ahead! Here’s what I’m particularly loving -
One - Woven St. Barths Earrings - I love the texture these earrings add to any outfit. Plus the neutral color goes with everything, while still adding interest to an outfit.
Two - Lilly Pulitzer Larsen Shift - I love how patriotic and festive this shift is. It’s perfect for the 4th too!
Three - Heart Sunglasses - I love a pair of trendy statement sunglasses for only $25, don’t you?
Four - Flag Jack Rogers - Can you get more patriotic than American flag Jack Rogers? I think not.
Five - Red Jumpsuit - You guys know I love red, and it is such a great color for summer (especially the holiday weekends). Aren’t the ruffles on the sleeves just darling?
Six - Gal Meets Glam Alma Dress - I love the gingham on this dress! Isn’t the green color so pretty? It also looks so summery yet so unique.
Seven - Citrus Bag - Can you get more summery than a yellow and orange citrus beaded bag? Nope.
Eight- Heart Beaded Earrings - These earrings come in lots of colors and add such a great pop of color!
Nine - Floral Jumpsuit - I love the ruffles on this jumpsuit and also the cool statement back!
Ten - Woven Bag - This handbag looks like a work of art!
Eleven - Jeweled Jelly Shoes - I mean, how fun are these?!
Twelve - Madewell Slide Sandals - These are the perfect neutral sandal to go with every summer outfit. I think a nice cognac sandal is a wardrobe staple!
Thirteen - J.Crew navy woven sandals - I’m always on the lookout for a good pair of summer sandals with a low heel. I think these are so pretty and unique, and the heel height is perfect!
Fourteen - Salma Dress - This is one of Tuckernuck’s new designs and I love how easy breeze it is, and the red triangles are so unique and pretty!
Fifteen - Fan Tassel Earrings - I love this periwinkle color! And I also love that they add drama to an outfit without being heavy.
Sixteen - Sam Canvas Bag - This bag comes in a navy that I love too. The Sam shape is great because it fits all of your essentials, including an iPad, without being bulky.
What are you doing this Memorial Day Weekend?
One of the big earrings trends of the spring and summer is scallop seashell earrings. I’ve seen them in many forms and colors - large stud earrings, gold dangles, acrylic statements earrings, etc., and I love them all! I think they are such a fun nod to summer beach days, and have a definite preppy ascetic. Don’t you agree? I think they’ll go especially well with a white and blue striped top or bright colored shift! Here are all of my favorites -
One - Pearl Oyster Drop Earrings - I love the pearl!
Two - Shell Kite Earrings - These are only $6.39! I love how they are delicate but the chandelier shape still makes a statement.
Three - Shell Drop Earrings - I think these are just gorgeous. They are so special, they make the perfect addition to all of your dressier summer outfits.
Four - Elsa Shell Drop Earrings - I love how these look just like a gilded shell!
Five - Seashell Hooped Post Earrings - I think these are just so delicate and pretty, so different from the other variations on the scallop.
Six - Embellished Shell Drop Earrings - These Sugarfix earrings are a steal; they are on sale for $10.39! And they have the prettiest blue accents!
Seven - Tiered Shell Drop Earrings - I also love these Sugarfix earrings. Aren’t the pastel shells so pretty?
Eight - Rouge Double Mermaid Earrings - What a great name! These earrings are large and make such a fun statement, perfect for dressing up a simple tee or sundress!
Nine - Summer Gold Mermaid Earrings - I love these! They are light weight and have the tiniest amount of sparkle in the gold. I just got them and can’t wait to wear them all summer long.
Ten - Ashore Drop Earrings - How fun are those triple scallops? Plus, the color would pair well with black tops and dresses.
Eleven - Scallop Shell Dangle Post Earrings - I think the double scallops on these earrings look so elegant! Plus they are gold for more sensitive earlobes.
What pair is your favorite? Do you think you’ll wear scallop earrings?
I have always been drawn to the ascetic of fashion icons Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly. They are so stylish and beautiful and, well, classic. I love the way they take classic pieces and make them look fresh and whimsical, all while staying so feminine and pretty. One of my favorite Audrey looks is her ankle length pants - she makes them look so effortless! When I saw these periwinkle blue pants at the store they looked exactly like something she or Grace Kelly would wear, and I fell in love with them immediately.
This blue color is one of my favorites right now. It’s a gorgeous light blue color that looks flattering on everyone, and looks excellent with white. While you know I love navy, I think you are going to see more and more of this blue in my closet in these warmer months! I also love the way the pants have a little texture in the weave, and the ankle length is so perfectly Audrey (in my opinion).
I paired the pants with a white blouse and easy sneakers. To add a little glamour I opted for gold hoops, and used one of my favorite basket bags (old, similar) to add some texture. Also, my aviator sunglasses broke and I found these frames at Nordstrom Rack for a steal! They have so many great choices right now, if you are looking for new glasses definitely check it out!
When creating an outfit I like to incorporate glitzy and casual pieces (in this case statement earrings and a basket bag) to balance each other out and add interest. So much of fashion is about balance - whether it’s in pairing a bright lip with a basic eye, a statement earrings with a casual sandal, or a fancy dress with a basket bag. I try to always keep that sense of balance when I decide what to wear in the morning.
What do you think? Would Audrey approve of periwinkle pants?
I think it’s no secret that I love a good handbag. I think they add the perfect finishing touch to any outfit, and I love how they meld style and function. I’ve always loved a good accessory (I even had a Fischer Price purse as a toddler, one of my favorite toys!) and I think I really got on the bandwagon one summer when my friend from Girls State taught me how to spot a fake, lol. Since then I’ve loved knowing what’s in and what’s out, and have loved figuring what’s on trend for this season! Here’s what’s in for spring and summer 2019!
Neutral Colored Totes - These bags are probably the most convenient since they hold a lot of stuff. The brighter colors match summer outfits so well! This is the MZ Wallace one pictured above, and I also love a beige Longchamp tote.
Structured Top Handled Bags - These lady like bags are gorgeous! I love the retro vibe to them, they are very Midge Maisel to me. The timeless shape and design means they will never truly go out of style either.
Convertible Totes - These totes can double as a traditional tote or a cross body satchel. the detachable strap adds convenience and a some interest with the extra hardware. I really like this Mansur Gavriel one, the wave detailing on the side is so cool looking.
Bucket Basket Bags - Two of the hottest trends over the past few years, bucket bags and basket bags, have melded together and I like it! This bucket basket bag is my favorite, I love that it holds all your essentials and adds so much texture to an outfit.
Mini Duffel Bags - This trend is just starting, and with the Mansur Gavriel site already sold out, plus wait listed items, I feel confident saying you’re going to see it grow a lot. This blue-gray option is a stunner.
Half Moon Bags - Half Moon crossbones are in this season too. The shape is very pretty, and I like the rounded edges after so many season of rectangle camera bags (I like those too, it’s just nice to see a change!) Plus they are cross bodies and still convenient.
I was so excited to receive my first ever Rachel Parcell dress in the mail. I’ve been following her blog for about a year, and I love her feminine style. It’s always so pretty, and I love that it’s also modest. That can be hard to come by on the internet now a days! So, when I saw that Nordstrom had picked up her line I couldn’t wait to receive my dress in person.
When I saw the pink floral fabric I knew it would pair perfectly with all of the tulips outside. They are blooming everywhere, and in such vibrant colors! The fabric is a very light pink, perfect for spring and Easter, and the flowers on it are really pretty in person.
I love the detail of the sleeving on this dress, the tiered ruffles are so beautiful in person. I also really like that the faux-wrap style included a hook and eye on top so that it isn’t too revealing. I thought the dress fit true to size. It’s a little loose, but I think that’s the style.
I also managed to get my hands on her thread wrapped earrings and I love them! These Rachel Parcel ones are sold out, but I found these on Etsy and they look very similar, and come in a bunch of colors. I highly recommend the style. It’s super light but adds so much color and interest to an outfit. I wore them with just jeans and a white tee the other day and got so many compliments! They are definitely an instant mood booster.
Have you found any new spring dresses you love? Or seen the Rachel Parcell collection?
It’s no secret at this point that I love a great statement earring! I think they make every outfit feel fun and special, and can add so much glamour and style to your wardrobe. These past few weeks I’ve been blown away at how many amazing statement earrings are out right now, and at all price points. I’ve been constantly scrolling through sites like Baublebar, Lisi Lerch, Antrho and Nordstrom with a giant grin on my face while I look at all the fabulous, marvelous designs! Below are all my favorites, which I think have enough style and pizazz to even wow my favorite Mrs. Maisel!
1. Lisi Lerch Shelly Earrings - I think you are going to see a lot of scallop earrings this spring and summer. I really like the drama of these oversized stud earrings, and the pearls add a little bit of glamour. Aren’t they perfectly preppy? I also like the seashell topped hoops for a more subtle take on the trend.
2. Renata Raffia Heart Earrings - How cute are these pink hearts? I love the texture of the raffia, it makes them less sweet and very on trend. Extra texture is a great way to add interest to an outfit, and I love the bright pop of pink!
3. Cayman Drop Earrings - When I saw these online I let out a squeal of delight! How fun are they?!! I think they would look amazing with a solid color or white top and some patterned shorts or skort. Slick your hair into a low bun and you’ll have the cutest outfit in the trip-state area : )
4. Orchid Earrings - I have these stud earrings in white and I love the pink option too! They literally go with anything, and the petals are this cool clay-feeling material so they don’t add any shine or glare to your outfit (other than the small rhinestones in the middle). I love them!
5. Metal Petal Drop Earrings - I love the 3-D aspect of these earrings, and the hammered gold makes for such a lovely sheen. Kate Spade has done so many cool new things with their spade logo lately, and these earrings might be the best yet!
6. Azure Fiesta Earrings - These oversized earrings are the perfect blend of bright and whimsical. The fringe detail is so fun, and I love how bright they are! They come in pink too!
7. Kate Bamboo Earrings - I love the bamboo design of these drop earrings. I think it looks both modern and mod and adds so much drama. Perfect for summer! Also, the earrings are a bit heavy, but they come in a clip version to better distribute the weight which is so smart!
8. Flower Statement Earrings - I think these earrings are so sweet and retro. Plus, they go with any outfit! I really love the shape of the flowers, they look like something Drew Barrymore would wear don’t you think?
9. Crystal & Blossom Clip on Earrings - I love the yellow! The enamel color is just so fun. Don’t yellow earrings just make you want to bounce around all day? Plus they are super pretty.
10. Camila Drop Earrings (on sale!) - These simple pink earrings will add a touch of shine and a lot of glamour to your outfit. They are just the prettiest shade of pink!
11. Parrot Earrings - I mean, how cute are these! If the sparkle of the cayman earrings was too much for you, then I think you’ll love these fringed parrots!
12. Kiera Raffia Statement Earrings - These earrings also come in a rainbow, but I love these natural ones so much. I think the textured neutral dangles will pair perfectly with a more colorful outfit. The ivory color means you can wear dramatic earrings without going over the top with the look.
13. White Vivi Earrings - These earrings are dramatic and I love them. I first saw them on Cameron on Southern Charm, and I was initially skeptical of how big they are, but now I’m pretty much obsessed with them. They are just so glamorous!
14. Tricia Lavender Earrings - These earrings are made to add some glamour! I like the unique shape a lot, and they come in lots of colors. I’m hoping to add them to my collection soon!
15. Sierra Raffia Stud Earrings - It’s really hard to find light green earrings, and these are the perfect color. I also love the flower shape and the fact that they are textured. I think they’ll pair great with some of my shifts that have a little bit of light green in the pattern.
16.. Ring Hoop Earrings - I think these hoops are a great every day earring that isn’t boring. A great wardrobe staple you’ll wear on repeat.
What pair are your favorite? Have you seen any good earrings I need to know about?
