The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's Makeup

Doesn’t the Midge Maisel always have the perfect face of makeup on the show? I love the bright pop of lipstick she always has. Watching her rock so many corals, reds and pinks on the show has made me want to step outside my beauty comfort zone and start adding a bit more color to my lips. So, I started browsing online to see what my options are and I hit the jackpot - I found the exact products worn by Rachel Brosnahan, the actress who plays Midge, when she won at the Golden Globes a few weeks ago (!!) Here’s the list-

Chanel Le Rouge in Merry Rose - Swatches and Review

Chanel Le Rouge in Merry Rose

I have been looking for the perfect “my lips but better” lipstick for ages and I finally found it right before the holidays. Chanel’s Le Rouge Duo Ultra Tenue Ultra Wear Lipcolor in Merry Rose is, quite simply, the perfect shade. It is a nude pink that adds warmth to your face but still matches everything. Plus, it lasts forever, even through eating, and has a lovely shine that makes your whole face look awake and happy.

Chanel’s Merry Rose comes in a double sided applicator. One side has the long wear lipcolor, and the other side is a gloss. I like to put on a couple layers of the lipstick, wait a minute, and then add the gloss. I then touch up with the gloss throughout the day.

Chanel Le Rouge in Merry Rose

Here, I paired Merry Rose with a light smokey eye, a subtle contour, and a little bit of bronzer. Plus lots of mascara. To be specific, I used on my eyes I used Urban Decay’s Naked Basics 2 for eyeshadow, Charlotte Tilbury eye kohl in Audrey to line my waterline and her black eyeliner on top, Trish McEvoy voluming mascara and Anastasia brows in taupe plus her clear gel. On the rest of my face I used my beloved Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation and Magic concealer, her Filmstar bronze and Glow, the Tom Ford Soleil bronzer and as a finishing touch the Glow and Cheek blush which adds the prettiest subtle pink glow (truly, this blush glows).

I’ve used Chanel’s Merry Rose with a nude eye, a smokey eye, a cat eye and every shade of pink blush and or bronzer and it matches everything. Plus it matches every outfit. It’s one of those shades that if you could only wear one lip color for the rest of your life Merry Rose would be it.

Finally, I like that the Le Rouge formula lasts all day but isn’t drying, especially if you exfoliate your lips at night. I’m not the best at reapplying lipstick throughout the day, so a long wear shade is perfect for me.

What’s your newest lipstick addiction? Do you have a my lips but better shade?

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation Review

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation

I recently purchased the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation when my old foundation ran out, and it is the foundation of my dreams! If you are looking for a more full coverage foundation that isn’t thick and cakey than the magic foundation is for you! It makes your skin look airbrushed somehow - all of your flaws are gone but you don’t look like you have a lot of makeup on. It’s just amazing, and I don’t know where it’s been all my life!

The CT Magic Foundation blends really well, lasts all day, and doesn’t make me break out (even when I accidentally fall asleep in it). I’m a shade 3, which is a perfect match to my skin tone. I pair it with the embryolisse concentrate to moisturize and a high SPF (it doesn’t have SPF, but I wear extra sunscreen even when my foundation has SPF).

I’ve been re-doing my makeup look for winter lately, using a bit more of a velvet finish and some more dramatic mascara, and this Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation is such an amazing addition, I know I’ll be using it well past winter. Here are all my new favorite products -

Happy Friday Friends!

Salvatore Ferragamo Glitter Shoes

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful week and lovely weekend ahead. The week flew by for me. We got back from Italy late Saturday, and I have spent the whole week adjusting to the time change and working on moving us in. I'm very excited about moving from a suburb community to a city, but it involves a lot of lifestyle adjustments. Simple things like getting to the grocery store become a lot more difficult when you can't just pop in with a car, but I think I'm starting to get the hang of our new lifestyle. My wheeled grocery cart is in the mail, and I successfully parallel parked, haha. I used to live in Boston, so those city skills are coming in handy again! Besides moving, I've found some fun stuff around the web this week too -

My guess is that the big Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale is going to be next week. This sale is HUGE and it's where a lot of my Lilly finds come from. Once the announcement is made I will post all of my tips for shopping the sale and getting the items you want.

I saw on Instagram that Charlotte Tilbury is launching at Sephora in September! I'm so excited - Sephora is hands down my favorite beauty shopping experience.

The new show Making It with Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman is so fun and cute! The master builders have amazing skills. The things that they create in a few hours are stunning; if you are looking for a new show this one is a must!

On the plane and trains on our vacation I got a lot of reading done.  When Life Gives You Lululemons is a really fun read; I breezed through it, and found it funny and endearing. I also started the new book Therapy Mammals which seems like a fun read, and I also saw that the author of the Half Drowned King has a sequel, The Sea Queen. I'm on the library wait list, and I will keep you posted on how it is.

The podcast Fat Mascara had on Luke Henderson, who does hair and makeup for a lot of the Bravo reality stars. If you want some makeup tips and some Housewives gossip it's a fun listen!

Charlotte Tilbury Makeup Brush Review

Charlotte Tilbury Makeup Brush

I recently purchased some Charlotte Tilbury makeup brushes and am blown away by the quality of them. I think that nice makeup brushes make a huge difference in how your makeup looks, and are worth investing in more than your makeup. In my experience, a nice brush will make almost any product look smooth and blended, whereas a bad brush will make even the nicest makeup going on streaky. I have therefore been slowing growing my collection over the last few years and the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Complexion BrushEye Smudger Brush and Beauty Filter blush brush are my favorites to date!

Charlotte Tilbury Makeup Brush

I bought the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Complexion Brush after a Nordstrom sales woman tested some products on my face and used the brush. It is hands down the best foundation brush I have ever used. It is soft, the bristles are dense, and it truly gives an airbrush finish. When I used the brush the first time I literally said "Woah!" out loud, I was so impressed with how it smoothed and blended my foundation and the Flawless Filter. The dual ends make it easy to fit around your noise, hairline and chin as well. If you are going to buy a foundation brush, buy this one!

The Charlotte Tilbury Eye Smudge brush is the perfect size to apply eyeshadow to the crease of your eyelid, as well as the inside and outside corners of your eye. I love how it both applies eyeshadow really nicely and blends it out, since I used to use two brushes for my eyeshadow. In addition, the brush is soft instead of scratchy like most smudges brushes.

Charlotte Tilbury Makeup Brush

Finally, I have the blush brush from the Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Filter Pretty Youth Glow Blush set. It is a very unique shape - the brush has a diver in the middle so it sits on top of your cheekbone perfectly. It is very soft and very dense, so it picks up a lot of product with one swipe. I love the unique shape, and that it applies cream blushes and not just powder ones.

Overall, I am so happy with my purchases and give these brushes an A+. Have you tried Charlotte Tilbury brushes? Do you have any makeup brush suggestions?

Happy Friday

Happy Friday friends! Did you have a nice week? Mine went by so quickly. On the positive side I got a few things off my to do list, and got a fun new summer haircut I'm really happy with. On the negative side I caught my husband's cold and it won't go away. I of course never enjoy being sick, but having a cold in the summer seems worse than the winter, haha.

Lilly Pulitzer Shift

My hairdresser did my wedding makeup, so whenever I go in for a haircut we talk about new beauty products that we love. She said that the new Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter is really beautiful in photos, and make sure to blend blend blend.

We saw Ocean's 8 last weekend and it was so good. It is just dripping with charisma, and is just fun to watch. If you are looking for a summer movie to catch, I highly recommend it. Also, in regards to movies, sometimes I like to sit and watch new trailers. I loved watching the one for the Nutcracker and the Four Realms, the new Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Mary Poppins Returns.

Nordstrom is price matching Ray-Ban sunglasses! A bunch of styles are 25% off, including Club Masters!

I've read a few good books recently! I recently started Circe and am really enjoying it so far, it really transports you into Greek Myth. I also read Tempests and Slaughter by Tamora Pierce, who was one of my favorite authors growing up. I enjoyed the book so much I went and re-read her other series, Wildmagic and Protector of the Small (I'm on the waitlist for the Song of the Lioness books). If you are looking for a good quick fantasy read, these are wonderful. Finally, I'm almost done The Ministry of Utmost Happiness it is one of those books that really makes you think about your world view, and what you know about current events.

Finally, yesterday was national bath day. If you didn't yet celebrate, I highly recommend the Whole Foods Lavender bubble bath. It smells so good and it makes lots of bubbles!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Cool New Beauty Products

While we were in NYC I of course had to do some beauty shopping. I love checking out the massive beauty department in Bergdorf Goodman, and Ricky's NYC. I found some really cool new products I'm excited to share.

Cool New Beauty Products

At Bergdorfs I don't buy anything, but I love browsing and watching all the different colors and products that you can only find online around me. For instance, they have the entire Charlotte Tilbury Line!

At Ricky's I always pick up new tools and face masks that I can't find in stores in Florida. They have an entire wall of sheet masks for under $10 each, and rows upon rows of every brand of shampoo and conditioner you've ever heard of. On top of that, there is an entire room dedicated to hair clips and bobby pins etc. I didn't even know there were so many, haha.

Here are my favorite finds -

1. Invisibobble Nano - I love the Invisibobble hair ties. They keep your hair pulled back and somehow they don't crease it, even after a few hours. I found this mini versions that match my hair color; since they are so small they don't need to be re-twisted around your hair.

2. No Crease Hair Clips - These hair clips don't crease your hair. They are perfect for when you want to clean back your hair after you style it while you do your makeup, or before you go out. I can never find them in store, so I was excited to find these.

3. Olaplex- This hair treatment fixes hair damage from coloring or heat damage, and you can use it at home.

4. Large Bobbypins - I bought these to secure velcro rollers when I blowout my hair. The spring clips always get caught, and it hurts, haha.

5. Yu-Be Foaming Skin Polish - I love the you-be skin cream. I call it magic cream - it heals flaking and peeling skin facial skin 100% of the time. The brand came out with this body polish; it foams up and then you rub it in to exfoliate your skin.

6. Esfolio Egg Essence Mask Sheet - This mask is "it contains egg yolk extract which helps keep skin energetic and moist. Vitamins of chaenomeles sinensis fruit extract and portulaca oleracea extract help to increase skin elasticity and moisture." Plus, it's $2.99!

7. Bioderma Cleansing Wipes - I love Bioderma micellar water, and am really excited to try the facial wipes. They are my go to beauty products to travel with, and this looks like a fun upgrade.

8. Pure Smile Pearl Mask - This sheet mask was only $1.99. I read an article a while ago that the pearl face masks are very good, so for less than $2 I'm in!

9. Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter - I have heard so much about this highlighter, I was excited to see what it looks like in person. It is a lot thicker than I thought, and very creamy. The saleswoman says her favorite way to apply it is to mix it with her foundation (any brand). You can also dab it on the high points of your face, like a traditional highlighter.

10. Charlotte Tilbury Bigger Brighter Eyes Palette, Transform-eyes - This palette swatches a lot lighter and prettier than it looks in the pan. The orange color is actually a lovely burnt sienna. I didn't buy it...but I have a feeling I'm going to succumb. The colors are so unique and pretty, and I am looking for a good 4-color palette for night time looks.

Have you seen any cool new beauty products yet? Please share!

New Charlotte Tilbury Products

I recently picked up a few new Charlotte Tilbury products and I am in love with them! I got the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow and the Kim KW lipstick. I have been eyeing them for ages, was bit by the beauty bug during the Sephora sale and decided to just go with it. I'm so glad I did because these products are gorgeous, inside the case and out.

The Filmstar Bronze and Glow is a contour and highlighter powder. They are slightly shimmery without being sparkly; you don't see glitter, but the effect is not matte. To use, I swiped the product onto my Sephora contour brush, and brushed the powder under my cheekbones, the sides of my forehead, my jaw line and very lightly on the sides of my nose. This is the first contour powder where I noticed a difference immediately, without feeling like I had mud on my face.

My contour fish face

To find your cheekbones Charlotte Tilbury suggests sucking in your cheeks to make a fish face. It works!

To apply the highlighter I used my highlighter brush, and swept the product onto the top of my cheekbones, my cupid's bow, the bridge of my nose and my brow bone. The product looks glowy but not shimmery or sparkly, and since the powder is so fine you can easily build up to the intensity you want.

Also, you can use the same brush to apply the highlighter and the contour, Charlotte Tilbury makes one, but I like two brushes. That way you don't accidentally apply leftover bronzing powder to the highlight areas of your face.

The Kim KW lipstick is a very opaque nude lipstick with pink undertones. This is by far my favorite shade of nude; the pink undertones mean you don't get that whole "corpse" mouth look that can unfortunately happen with other nudes.

New Charlotte Tilbury Makeup Products

This color is very opaque, so to apply I blotted in onto my lips after putting on her lipliner in Pillow Talk. I then took my finger and lightly blended the two colors together. If you get the lipstick and think woah, this color is beige!, then try and blot it on and blend it. In my opinion it goes from eh to the perfect nude when you put it on this way. The only drawback to this color is that it shows if you lips are flaking, so make sure to moisturize and use a lip scrub before you apply it.

The are opening a full Charlotte Tilbury beauty counter in the Nordstrom near me soon, so I'm pretty sure there are more blog posts on her cosmetics in the future. I just love her products, especially these two new beauties.

Have you tried any of her makeup? What's your favorite?
