The Inn At Perry Cabin

Inn at Perry Cabin

As I mentioned on Friday, we went to the Inn at Perry Cabin for a few days for our anniversary. It was heaven! The Inn sits on the water, and the entire place radiates a sense of peace and calm. Along with a gorgeous landscape, there are outdoor fire pits throughout the property, along with a fireplace in the room, which I loved. We spent most of days reading in front of the water, then the pool and then back to the water with lots of great food in between. We also explored the charming down town, and went on a sail boat ride (it was one of the best surprises ever, I’ll share the pictures soon!)

The Inn’s Adirondack chairs were so comfortable, and the temperature in the shadow as perfect to sit by the water and read for hours. I wore my packable bow hat, which I’ve loved for years. The bow on the back is so classic and it does an amazing job keeping the sun out of your eyes. Plus, you can squish it when you pack and it comes back into life. I love how the hat looks which shorts and a tee, or a sundress like I’m wearing here. This one has bows in the back and a short ruffled sleeve; these cute details really elevate the dress and I love the pink pattern! Bows on the dress and bows on my hat - that’s a good day ; )

I love this hot pink dress! It has ruffled sleeves, a ruffled hem and a sash you can knot or tie in a bow. The tailoring makes it super flattering, and it can be dressed up or down. Plus the print has lobsters on it, so cheeky! I wore it to see Frozen, and it’s since become a party dress favorite!

We sat on the porch in the morning and watched the sun rise over the water. A glorious way to start the day!

Overall it was some much needed romantic relaxation at a beautiful spot I can’t wait to return to. I’m thinking a cozy fall getaway is going to be in order in a few months! The water surrounded by changing leaves and outdoor bonfires? Just heaven.

Give Me All The Ruffles

Lilly Pulitzer Skort

The second I saw this ruffled skort I knew I needed to add it to my summer wardrobe. The wrap around ruffle and the pink seersucker make me feel like a ballerina. Plus, I love that the skort looks a little dressier than plain shorts but is just as easy and convenient to walk around town in. Just add in sneakers and a white top and you are good to go all day, from day to night!

I put it to the test on Memorial Day, and walked all around D.C. and scooted around to the Arlington Cemetery. The Lyft scooters are so fun! You use the Lyft app to rent scooters, and then zip all around. The National Mall is the perfect place to use them too; the roads are smooth and wide, and there is so much to see along the way!

Maison Kayser D.C.
Lilly Pulitzer Skort

Before the monuments and the scooters we started the day off at our favorite breakfast place, Maison Kayser. We first went to Maison Kayser when we were in Paris on our honeymoon, and it is just as delicious in the states! I highly, highly recommend the baguette with jam and butter. So simple and so delicious! If you are in NYC they have a few locations there, and they have two in Washington D.C., including one by the National Mall.

Tee / Tank / Skort / Sneakers / Sunglasses / Backpack

How cute is the fact that there is a ramp for the ducks to get into the fountain by the National Sculpture Garden?!! I paired the skort with both this lace ruffled tank and my go to tee. I loved the tank, but once we started scooting around I wanted my shoulders covered so I put on a t-shirt. I also wore my trusty Supergas - these have been my go to sneakers for years! They are so comfortable and cute! Even Kate Middleton agrees ; )

Are you excited about ruffles too? I didn’t used to like them, but this year I can’t get enough!

A Day at Mount Vernon

A Day at Mount Vernon

Once the warm weather hit DC we decided to get back into the swing of sightseeing and doing more “tourist” activities again. The city has so much to offer and I feel like we have barely scratched the surface! At the top of our list was a day at Mount Vernon. I love touring historical homes, and Mount Vernon is just gorgeous and most of it is original. Plus, George Washington slept there! As a history buff I don’t know if you can top that…

A Day at Mount Vernon

We just loved it (in fact we became members so we can return all year round). I had been in high school for a quick visit, but I didn’t remember how large the property is. On top of the home itself there are acres and acres of gardens and farmland, even a working mill. The in the gardens flowers are from all over, because Washington used to receive exotic seeds as gifts. Plus, the restaurant is delicious and so very charming. I highly recommend the peanut soup.

Lilly Pulitzer Dress / Earrings / Jack Rogers / Basket Bag / Sunglasses

I couldn’t wait to wear this new navy dress. I love that it has a cap sleeve and embroidery detailing, and that the fabric is light and has a lovely drape. The pops of yellow make me very happy too - I couldn’t wait to pick up these yellow earrings to pair it with. They are very light and didn’t bother me after wearing them all day both Saturday and Sunday. I think yellow might be my color of the summer; I can’t wait to pair these earrings with lots of yellow prints. It’s just such a sunny color!

I can’t wait to return to Mount Vernon when my parents come in July. I bet it looks super patriotic then! I’m also looking forward to reading more about George Washington. The fact that he voluntarily relinquished power is so impressive (and rare). The book 1776 looks like a good place to start. Do you have any biography recommendations?

Updated - Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale - Winter 2019

Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale

Updated - they just added lots of cashmere and popover to the sale! I particularly love the popover dress, it looks so bright and so cozy! Here are my favorite new items-

Today’s the day - the Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale is live! There are so many amazing finds this year for amazing prices - I looked in store yesterday and online today and am so pleased with both the selection and deals. Plus, there are a ton of sweaters so you can wear all of your finds right now, including cashmere. Lilly cashmere is high quality, I bought a cashmere sweater during the August sale and it’s one of my favorite pieces in my closet; it’s cozy and warm and the most perfect pale blue - who says you can’t wear color in the winter? Here are some of my favorites, and I talk about sizing at the end of the post-

Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale

As to sizing, I think Lilly clothes fit true to size with a few exceptions - pants run a little small, swingy sweaters/athletic wear run big, and size up on swim tops. Also, if you haven’t shopped the sale before there is a virtual line, which you can read all about here.

There are more items being added tomorrow, so I will keep this page updated!

Happy Shopping!

Happy Friday

Happy Friday everyone! Aren’t sort weeks the best? This week just flew by, and I am happy to say that all of my moving related to do list items are finally done! Now, on to my fall wish list, which is full of apple picking and pumpkin recipes and sweaters. I cannot wait to begin, and for this heat wave to subside.

Venchi Gelato

While led this week was short, I still found lots of fun stuff-

The Lilly Pulitzer Sale is here! You can shop in stores starting tomorrow and online Monday at 8am. Read my tips for shopping the sale here. I know I’ve mentioned the sale a few times, but it’s just such a good one! Almost everything is for sale at a huge discount. I’m hoping to get some good sweaters, what about you?

I can’t wait for fall TV to start, what about you? This Is Us is one of my favorites, along with the Good Place. I saw a few promising premieres too, like the new Amy Poehler show I Feel Bad. Does anyone have any other recommendations?

Ulta 21 Days of Beauty is here! Some of my favorite beauty products are 5p% off, including the Anastasia Brow Wiz and Juice Beauty sets.

I can’t wait to make this fall wreath. Isn’t it amazing what can be made out of paper?!

J.Crew has so many cute new fall clothes, and almost everything is 4o% right now. I picked up these earrings, I think they’ll go with all my clothes all season long.

I just finished reading Before We Were Yours and I couldn’t put it down. It’s a poignant historical fiction book that centers upon the devastation caused by Georgia Tann of the Tennessee Children’s Home Society in the 1930s-1950, and I highly recommend reading it.

Finally, I added an All That Glitters Facebook page! Be sure to check it out!

Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale Fall 2018

All right guys, they finally released details about the Lilly sale! It's going to be from 8AM ET on Monday, September 10, 2018 to September 12, 2018 at 11:59 PM ET. If you haven't shopped the summer sale before, it's huge. There are hundreds of items on sale for amazing prices; I've seen blouses that were originally over $100 on sale for $30ish. Since the sale is so large and so popular, there are a few tricks to make sure you get what you want - and these are tips I haven't seen posted on other sites that have served me very well in the past :)

1. Log In Before the Sale Starts - The sale goes live around 8am, but if you log on to the Lilly site a few minutes before you will automatically be added to the virtual line when the sale begins. You can't use this trip too early (for instance, 10 minutes didn't work for me last year), but a good 2-3 minutes gets you closer to the front of the virtual line.

2. If There is Something You Want, Do a Targeted Search - If there is anything you are hoping goes on sale (for instance, I would like this light blue cardigan that was out last winter), search for it instead of browsing page by page. Otherwise it might sell out.

3. If You Find Something You Really Wanted, Check Out ASAP - Once you get the item you were searching for, check out. You will have to get back in the virtual line to check out other sale items, but if you really want something it's worth it. Items aren't held in your cart for you, so if you don't check out it can disappear (this has happened to me a few times).

4. Log In On Multiple Devices - I always try to access the sale through as many electronics as I can. That way if I check out on say my computer, I don't have to wait in the whole line again. Since I've also been in line on my phone or iPad, I'm almost at the front of the queue on my on that device :)

5. Know Your Size - The items are final sale, so if you live near a Lilly store go try some items on to know what size you are. Though, if something doesn't end up fitting don't fret! Keep the tags on and sell it on eBay or Poshmark. You'll probably get what you paid for it.

Finally, don't worry that it will only be summer clothes. There are always plenty of items from the winter collection. Happy Shopping!

Happy Friday Friends!

Salvatore Ferragamo Glitter Shoes

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful week and lovely weekend ahead. The week flew by for me. We got back from Italy late Saturday, and I have spent the whole week adjusting to the time change and working on moving us in. I'm very excited about moving from a suburb community to a city, but it involves a lot of lifestyle adjustments. Simple things like getting to the grocery store become a lot more difficult when you can't just pop in with a car, but I think I'm starting to get the hang of our new lifestyle. My wheeled grocery cart is in the mail, and I successfully parallel parked, haha. I used to live in Boston, so those city skills are coming in handy again! Besides moving, I've found some fun stuff around the web this week too -

My guess is that the big Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale is going to be next week. This sale is HUGE and it's where a lot of my Lilly finds come from. Once the announcement is made I will post all of my tips for shopping the sale and getting the items you want.

I saw on Instagram that Charlotte Tilbury is launching at Sephora in September! I'm so excited - Sephora is hands down my favorite beauty shopping experience.

The new show Making It with Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman is so fun and cute! The master builders have amazing skills. The things that they create in a few hours are stunning; if you are looking for a new show this one is a must!

On the plane and trains on our vacation I got a lot of reading done.  When Life Gives You Lululemons is a really fun read; I breezed through it, and found it funny and endearing. I also started the new book Therapy Mammals which seems like a fun read, and I also saw that the author of the Half Drowned King has a sequel, The Sea Queen. I'm on the library wait list, and I will keep you posted on how it is.

The podcast Fat Mascara had on Luke Henderson, who does hair and makeup for a lot of the Bravo reality stars. If you want some makeup tips and some Housewives gossip it's a fun listen!

Happy Friday

Happy Friday friends! Did you have a nice week? Mine went by so quickly. On the positive side I got a few things off my to do list, and got a fun new summer haircut I'm really happy with. On the negative side I caught my husband's cold and it won't go away. I of course never enjoy being sick, but having a cold in the summer seems worse than the winter, haha.

Lilly Pulitzer Shift

My hairdresser did my wedding makeup, so whenever I go in for a haircut we talk about new beauty products that we love. She said that the new Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter is really beautiful in photos, and make sure to blend blend blend.

We saw Ocean's 8 last weekend and it was so good. It is just dripping with charisma, and is just fun to watch. If you are looking for a summer movie to catch, I highly recommend it. Also, in regards to movies, sometimes I like to sit and watch new trailers. I loved watching the one for the Nutcracker and the Four Realms, the new Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Mary Poppins Returns.

Nordstrom is price matching Ray-Ban sunglasses! A bunch of styles are 25% off, including Club Masters!

I've read a few good books recently! I recently started Circe and am really enjoying it so far, it really transports you into Greek Myth. I also read Tempests and Slaughter by Tamora Pierce, who was one of my favorite authors growing up. I enjoyed the book so much I went and re-read her other series, Wildmagic and Protector of the Small (I'm on the waitlist for the Song of the Lioness books). If you are looking for a good quick fantasy read, these are wonderful. Finally, I'm almost done The Ministry of Utmost Happiness it is one of those books that really makes you think about your world view, and what you know about current events.

Finally, yesterday was national bath day. If you didn't yet celebrate, I highly recommend the Whole Foods Lavender bubble bath. It smells so good and it makes lots of bubbles!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Friday Finds

Happy Friday friends! Isn't it amazing how Friday comes at the same time every week and sometimes it comes way faster or slower than others? Regardless it has arrived! I am looking forward to sitting by the pool in the morning and avoiding the heat in the afternoon by watching some good movies. The heat has hit south Florida and it is hot! We're supposed to get some more thunderstorms this weekend and I hope they help with the humidity...we shall see.

Lisa Lerch - Did you guys here that Lisa Lerch bought Bosom Buddy Bags? These bags have been on my radar for a few years, ever since Carly The Prepster started carrying it around. Well, the maker of fantastic statement earrings (if you've been eyeing statement earrings online and don't know where they are from, they are likely Lisa Lerch) like this, this and this bought the bag company. I can't wait to see how she tweaks the bags. I am in love with this one, but can't decide between white and black ribbon, and can't decide on a charm. I hope she brings back the snafu!

I got these Lemon earrings from J.Crew Factory and they are so fun! Basically when life gives you lemons, make earrings. Plus, they are $10.50 and look so much like this $228 pair

There are so many great movies out! First, Thor Ragnarok is on Netflix now and I highly recommend it! Even if you don't like superhero movies at all, this movie is hilarious! In theaters there is Solo, which I loved, and also Ocean's 8 and Jurassic Park debut this weekend. We are going to put our MoviePass to such good use! If you like going to the movies now is definitely the time to get MoviePass!

If you have ever wondered how to put on individual fake eyelashes watch this tutorial. Ashley Brooke does a fantastic job demonstrating all the steps, she makes it seem so easy and clear!

There are new Lilly Pulitzer arrivals! I am still swooning for this dress, it looks so vintage and classic, and all the new arrivals are just so fun and darling. I'm really in love with this years summer's collection. The light blue and the gingham and the swim, they are on to something!

Finally, there are so many good comedy specials on Netflix right now! If you are looking for something to watch I highly recommend the Jim Gaffigan special, the most recent Jerry Seinfeld special and both of the John Mulaney specials. To be honest, the John Mulaney specials are definitely not for kids, and I don't agree with everything he says of course, but it is so funny!

What are you up to this weekend? Anything fun?

My Favorite Dress Brands

I have a few go to dress brands that I always reach for in my closet and always shop for. Lilly Pulitzer, Persifor and Draper James always make me feel polished and put together, and I love the ascetics. Plus, they are very flattering and easy to travel with. Since I know that a lot of you are always wondering about these brands, and whether they live up to the hype, I want to share why I love them so much.

Lilly Pulitzer dresses are so fun and flattering. They are cut to fit a woman's body, so they don't hang or gape, and a lot of the looks include build in bras. I always love the patterns, and the navy dresses are great too. They have a wide range, from fancy to beach coverups, so I know whatever the event I can find something at Lilly. Some of my favorite are the classic shift, the bread embroidered dresses, and the zip-up Callista. Finally, the quality is excellent - the dresses wash and dry clean to look like new.

Gal Meets Glam

Gal Meets Glam is a newer brand, and everything I have seen so far has knocked my socks off. The fabrics are luxurious and the silhouettes are all just lovely. In person you can tell how well made the dresses are, and how stunning the prints and colors are. I also love that they come in a wide variety of price points and fabrics, so they work for casual and fancy events. I love how romantic the cuts are as well, very Old Hollywood.

Draper James

Draper James Circle Dress

Draper James dresses are very well made, and the prices have lowered recently. I love that the dresses are all very bright and classic. The dresses are also quite flattering, and they all have pockets! I also love that they make collections for different, like football season and the beach.

Persifor

Persifor Carter Dress

I love Persifor dresses! The founder worked at both Lilly Pulitzer and J.Crew, and you can tell from the timeless silhouettes and the bright prints. The Carter dress is one of my favorites. It has pockets in the front and the cut is very flattering. My favorite part of Persifor dresses, however, is the fabric. They don't wrinkle! I've traveled with them to Europe, worn them throughout Disney, etc. and never a crease. Isn't that amazing?

I also love dresses from J.Crew and J.Crew Factory. There are so many options at all price points. I really love the faux wrap dresses they have right now. The prices are always great, and the clothes go on sale all the time!

What are your favorite dress brands?

Summer Wardrobe Staples

It's only a few days from the official start of summer! Can you believe it? I have been re-organizing my closet and put together a few staple items I'm excited to wear all summer long. I like to ear mark have a few pieces that I know I feel confident and that work for a number of occasions. That way I have outfits ready to go with items I already own if we plan any last minute dinners out or even weekend getaways. It also helps limit compulsive shopping...haha.

I've put together a few outfits involving a bright bag, statement earrings, skinny jeans, white top, interesting tee, shorts, sandals, and of course some beach items. I hope these help inspire you to create some summer outfits!

Summer Wardrobe Staples
Summer Wardrobe Staples

Here I used jeans, sandals and statement earrings again. To make it into a new outfit I switched to a flutter sleeve top and a fun bag that is easy to use as a cross body.

Summer Wardrobe Staples

Here is the same sandals, the white top and bag from the first outfit, and some fun printed Lilly shorts. Even though almost all the pieces are the same it looks like such a different outfit, don't you think?

Lilly Pulitzer Bathing Suit

Finally, these are my beach staples. I love this Lilly Pulitzer swim suit, it is so comfortable and flattering! Plus a hat (have to wear a hat in south Florida), SPF 50 and some older sandals

What are your summer staples? Any pieces I need to get?
