Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Whether you are spending the day with your fella, your girlfriends, or by your self (I know I’ve done all three over the years) I hope you are taking some time to enjoy yourself and feel special! I think you are all amazing, and I am so grateful you take the time to come and read my blog every day and leave such sweet comments. So, will you all be my Valentine?

If you haven’t got any set plans yet, here are a few easy ideas to make the night feel special:

-Watch your favorite movie with some comfort food. For me that means a big bowl of pasta and Beauty and the Beast.

-Treat yourself to a bouquet of flowers for your counter. I love the Trader Joe’s bouquets!

-Go with some friends to the movies - a movie on a weeknight can feel like such a treat! I just saw the Lego Movie 2 and it was really, really good. Very fun and clever, just like the first one.

-Cook a dinner in that includes some “special” foods that you wouldn’t normally splurge on. Cooking with girlfriends is so much fun, and it’s also one of my favorite date nights! Or, put on the newest episode of RHOBH and cook for yourself while dancing to the drama.

-Take some time to read that book you’ve been meaning to or start that craft project that you’re excited about.

-Have an at home spa night with friends or yourself. You could even video chat with friends who are far away while you apply face masks and nail polish.

-Finally, binge watch Parks and Rec. If you are even a little be down this Valentine’s Day that show will perk you right up, I promise!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Homemade Valentines

One of my favorite parts of Valentine’s Day is making homemade Valentines! There’s just something so special about a homemade card, don’t you think? My favorite Valentines to make are cute and sweet and also unexpected! The sky is the limit when it comes to size and shape, don’t you agree? And also, as you probably aren’t surprised to hear, my philosophy is bring on the glitter! (and if you use glitter glue you don’t have to worry about cleaning it up ;)

Here are some ideas for some lovely homemade Valentines!

Homemade Valentines

A puzzle card - To make a puzzle card, simply draw your design on a piece of paper, whatever size you wish (though try not to make it too much bigger than an envelop) and when you are done turn the design over and use a pencil to draw out a puzzle. Then cut it out along the pencil lines, and erase any leftover markings. Put it in an envelope, and it’s ready for your Valentine!

An origami heart - Write a sweet message on origami paper and then fold it up. Here’ s tutorial on how to fold the heart.

A Valentine themed cootie catcher - Remember coodie catchers? I have no idea how much time I spent making and playing with them in elementary school, especially on the bus! Here’s a tutorial on how to fold the cootie catcher. Once you’ve folded it, write Valentine themed messages on the squares.

A Scandinavian heart filled with treats - These hearts look way harder to make than they actually are, so they are sure to impress! Here is a video on how to cut and fold the hearts. If you make it big enough, you can stick some Reese’s hearts in their, or even an origami heart with a message!

A Valentine themed crossword - I made a crossword for my dad once, he loved it! Here is crossword I found online, or I think it would be really sweet if the clues were specific to the person you gave it to.

I tend to shop at Michael’s and JoAnn’s for my craft supplies. I personally love this heart hole punch, this Valentine’s Day themed scrapbook paper, and I love, love my Cricut Explore Air!

Aren’t these cookies perfect for Valentine’s Day? I love that they’re pink! Plus, they tasted positively scrumptious and were super easy to make. A lot of cookie recipes require you to chill the dough for a while, but with these Strawberry White Chocolate Chip cookies you just mixed together the ingredients and popped them right into the oven. Perfect for a last minute treat for your girlfriends or significant other! Also, you can easily switch the white chocolate chips for chocolate if you prefer.

Strawberry White Chocolate Chip Cookies

Valentines and Galentines Day Gifts

Aren’t all of the Valentine’s Day trinkets so darling? I love all the pink and the red and the heart shaped candy. It’s so fun and sweet (quite literally!) and has always made me smile. Since I think a lot of people are like me and don’t exchange expensive presents on Valentine’s Day, I made sure all the presents in this collage are under $20 (and everything but the sunglasses and lipgloss is under $15). I love how sweet they all are, and how you can use them well past Valentines Day. Pink nail polish is a year round thing in my book! Plus, the small price tag makes it a lot more fun to surprise your friends for Galentines Day!

Side note- Isn’t it fun that Leslie Knope’s “Galentines Day” has really taken off? The creation of a national holiday to celebrate your girlfriends - I think that’s the influence of pop culture at its finest)
