Fall Beauty Trends and How to Wear Them

One of my favorite parts of dressing for a new season is changing my beauty routine. I also love to incorporate warmer toned eyeshadow and blush, and a nice darker rosy lip, while also giving a nod to the current trends. What’s great about makeup trends is that you can try out new trends without making much of a dent in your wallet - the season’s hottest nail color will cost you under $10. Today I have put together some of my favorite fall beauty trends and how to wear them, to inspire your beauty wardrobe for this autumn.

Rich Red Lips

Rich Red Lipstick

It’s easy to achieve a rich red pout. First, line your lips with a lipliner that matches your lipstick. I really love the Charlotte Tilbury and Bobbi Brown lipliners, they have amazing staying power! I’ve also heard great things about Wet and Wild lipliners. Next, find a red lipstick that looks flattering on your skin tone. My favorite is Glossier Generation G in Zip or Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colour in Vermillion Red (currently on sale!). The Neutrogena Moisturesmooth Color Stick, 160 Classic Red is a great drugstore option too!

Halfway Liner

Fall Makeup Look

Using a light shimmery eyeshadow on the inner half of your eye, like Reese, did, really opens up the eye. Use a shimmery shade without glitter in it - think pearlescent not sparkly. I really love this smudge brush to apply shadow on the inner corners, and a q-tip works okay too. I think this shade is really pretty to use!

Brown Lips

Brown Lipstick

Brown lipstick is a huge trend for fall - the 90s are back! Just look at Constance Wu’s makeup in Crazy Rich Asians. My favorite brown shade is Generation G in Leo. It layers well, so you can get the perfect color pay off to suit your skin tone. It has a matte finish, so put a lip balm on top to add some shine.

Sunset Eyes

Sunset Eyeshadow

Sunset eyes are a big trend for fall as well. An easy way to adopt to the trend without going too dramatic is to use copper and bronze eyeshadow colors. Use a few different shades, with the darkest shade closest to your lash line and the lightest shade near your brow bone.

Two Tone Shadow

To get Emma Stone’s eyeshadow look use a colorful eyeshadow on your lid and smudge black eyeliner into the lower lash line. For more drama, layer black eyeshadow on top of the liner.

Dramatic Winged Liner

Dramatic Winged Eyeliner

The easiest way to get a dramatic wineed eyeliner like Lily Collins is to use a liquid eyeliner pen. My favorite is the Kat Von D one in Trooper.

Blue Eyeliner

Blue Eyeliner

A blue eyeliner is a great way to add some pop to any outfit without being too dramatic or over the top. The Urban Decay 24/7 liners come in so many colors! Just apply a thin line to the top of your eyelash line.

Five Essential Pieces for Fall

Today I'm excited to share five essential pieces for fall. Now that the heat wave has finally broken I'm starting to prepare my wardrobe for autumn. Fall has always been my favorite season and I am so happy to get to experience it again after a few years. Early fall is typically chilly but not cold and rather wet. I've put together these fall essentials to help you stay stylish and comfortable for the next few weeks. I'm particularly drawn to reds and blues right now, but they would look beautiful in any color.

Five Essential Pieces for Fall

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5

1. Puffer Vest - I love a nice vest. They keep you warm, and color and texture to your outfit. Vests are also the perfect weight for early fall, and can be layered under other clothes as the temperature drops. There are so many beautiful colors right now, and the current styles add almost no bulk which I love.

2. Striped top - I love a striped top. They are flattering, and will be in style year after year. This J.Crew one is so classic and comes in navy, pink, and multi color. I like the 3/4 sleeve length for September, but they also come in long and short sleeves

3. Rain boots - It's so rainy here in D.C., my sneakers are soaked before I reach the Metro. Rain boots are the perfect solution of course, and a pair of Hunter boots are a wardrobe classic that is in style year after year. I also really like L.L.Bean boots, and you can find great options at other stores like Target.

4. Scarf - A colorful scarf adds so much texture and color to an outfit. Fall dressing is all about layering textures, and scarves are a perfect way to do that. I love these Tuckernuck scarves; they look like Hermes ones and are under $50. A large scarf can be worn so many ways too - around the neck, on a handbag, outside or inside a coat. The options are almost endless!

5. Skinny ankle length jeans - Skinny jeans are great for fall because they tuck well into boots. I like ankle length ones for early fall because they don't drag on the ground when it's raining, and the pop of ankle they add looks cute with loafers or sneakers when it's sunny out.
