Happy Friday

Washington DC tulips

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you don’t mind all of the flower pictures these last few weeks, they just make me so happy and I figure I should spread the joy! This week I realized that while the cherry blossoms are just about finished, there are tulips blooming everywhere; they are in so many vibrant colors, and then every once in a while a different flower variety pops up in the middle, like in the picture above. All of these flowers have gotten me to pause for a second and take in the beauty around me, reminding me to find joy in every day moments. I hope my pictures inspire you too!

Here are some other things bringing me joy this week -

My Spring Bucket List

Spring Tulips in Washington DC

Is it just me or has this year just flown by so far? There is so much I want to do before summer sets in (and the corresponding heat!) and yet I blink and weeks of spring are gone! To combat the problem I have created a bucket list of everything I want to accomplish before spring is over, and I thought it would be fun to share in case it gives you any inspiration!

1. Make soy wax candles

2. Record my family recipes

3. Go on a picnic

4. Take a drive through the countryside to see more spring flowers

5. Make a meal on the grill and eat outside

6. Finish another jigsaw puzzle

7. Update our framed pictures with new photos

8. Go Kayaking and or hiking

9.  Call all my friends who live far away and I haven’t spoken to recently

10. Do something touristy - Mount Vernon or Monticello or even the zoo

11. Master the perfect monitor recipe

Whats in your list this spring?

I hope everyone had a great week! Mine was okay, full with a lot of every day work and chores; isn’t it nice to get back into the swing of things and have your home back in order after a busy spell? I’m officially decorated for Easter, the pantry is stocked, the floors are mopped and it feels good. On that note, this is the first weekend in a while that JD and I can hang out and relax together the whole time (his work has been SO busy) and I’m excited! I heard Cactus Cantina has the best margaritas, and we might fit in a showing of Dumbo. Has anyone seen it? I hope you all have a wonderful weekend too!

Here are some things that caught my eye online this week -

Kate Spade is 30% off this weekend! My new straw bag is included in the sale, along with this round canteen bag that looks a lot like the designer ones for so much less.

I love the tropical theme of Julia guest bedroom and bathroom!

Kate Middleton wore my favorite sweater!! (in a different color)

I’m obsessed with this crosbody capsule bag. Do you like the tan or the navy?

The Cutest Spring Home Decor

I love decorating for spring so, so much. All of the cute bunnies and chicks and the pastel flowers make me so happy! I have a small collection of adorable Easter decor that grows just a little bit each year (and will undoubtedly grow exponentially once we have more storage!) and was excited to add a new wreath and some table decor to it this year, along with the darling little chick I included a picture of in yesterday’s post. There are so many decorations in stores that I love right now, though! I’m pretty sure a few more will make it home with me before spring is out ; ) Here are some of my favorites -

the cutest spring decor

One - Woodgrain bunnies - Aren’t these beautiful? They would ook so cute on a bookcase

Two - Sugarfina Easter bunnies - Delicious and festive! Perfect for Easter baskets, or as a decorative treat all spring

Three - Bunny Pillow - I love the expression on this cute bunny, isn’t it a lovely throw pillow?

Four - Easter platter - I’m so excited to one day host a giant Easter dinner with all of our family and friends, and when that happens I am using a platter as festive and beatiful as this one!

Five - Easter Basket - This basket would look so pretty with some ceramic eggs and pastel green Easter grass in the middle of a mantel or dining room table.

Six - Easter wreath - I picked up this wreath a few weeks ago and it is so pretty! I love the muted colors and the moss accents.

Seven - Bud Vases (on sale) - These vases are so pretty for all spring long, especially once you can add some blooms from outside.

Eight - Teapot - I love how elegant and chic this teapot is. The flower accent is the perfect finishing touch too.

Nine - Pierced Ceramic Eggs (on sale) - These decorations are so gorgeous and would look amazing in your home year after year.

Ten - Bunny candy bowl - I mean come on! Who can resist table decor that’s this cute?

Eleven - Bunny Mug - The perfect way to add a smile to your morning cofee!

Twelve- Maggie Louise Confections - These candies are just beautiful, the perfect “adult” Easter candy gift.

Thirteen - Peeps Hand Towels - How adorable are these kitchen towels?

Fourteen - Spring candle - The perfect scent for all your spring days

Fifteen - Cake Stand - I love how this cake stand looks like it has glitter suspended in it but still looks elegant

Sixteen - Salt and Pepper Shakers - The cutest teacup salt and pepper shakers.

Have you started decorating for spring yet? What’s your favorite decoration?

The Perfect White Jacket

Kate Spade rose small convertible crossbody

Did everyone have a good weekend? We went out for St. Patrick’s Day yesterday, corned beef and cabbage at Marvin’s Tavern. It’s a cute restaurant that Jackie and JFK used to go, and it serves some delicious traditional Irish food at reasonable prices (well, reasonable for Georgetown). Also, all of the trees and flowers are getting ready to bloom, so it was so nice to walk around this weekend in the spring sunshine and crisp night air. Since the sunshine was out I was able to pull out a sundress and my favorite spring purchases - a white jean jacket and basket bag.

It’s still a bit chilly in a lot of the country (or air conditioning can be chilly in warmer places like Florida) but it feel like time to bring out spring dresses and pastel florals. This white denim jacket is the answer! It has been the perfect addition to spring dresses - it adds a layer of warmth, the white is a great accent color that matches spring colors beautifully, and it also adds a layer of interest. I love that the sleeves on this one easily roll up, and the gold grommets are a nice feminine touch. It is also stiff enough that the color stays popped and the sleeves stay rolled, but it is soft enough to be comfortable.

Finally, this is my new favorite handbag (quite possibly one of my favorite bags ever!). I love everything about the Kate Spade re-brand, it’s so fun and classic and retro. My favorite piece in the new collection is this Kate Spade rose small convertible crossbody. I think it looks exactly like something Midge Maisel would have used in the Catskills. The interior has a card case so you don’t need a wallet, and fits all of your essentials, and the strap adjusts to either a crossbody style or a shoulder bag. Be prepared to see this bag a lot on the blog, I’ll be wearing it all spring and summer long!

Happy Friday

new glasses

Happy Friday! Spring has sprung in D.C. and it’s so exciting! Yesterday I walked around in a shift dress and sneakers! And I saw newly bloomed flowers on my walk home! I’ve never experienced a real spring before - in Florida it was just hot all spring long, and in Boston it was cold until June - so I’ve thrilled to soak in the spring sunshine and blooming flowers. On that note, this weekend I plan on spending as much time outside as possible, likely with a good book and a cold La Croix. We are also going to see Captain Marvel and I am so, so excited! I love the superhero movies, and having a major female Marvel superhero is so great. And, to top it all off, I can’t wait for some corned beef and cabbage on Sunday. The perfect St. Patrick’s Day treat.

Here are some other things I enjoyed online this weekend-

I just ordered these new glasses, the Warby Parker Madeleine, and I’m so excited about them!

Have you seen the new Draper James shoes? The gingham ones are my favorite, though they are all so cute!

Gal Meets Glam launched new dresses and they are all gorgeous! I particularly love the Aurora maxie, it looks like a wear everywhere princess dress! And the Cecily has the most gorgeous rosebud fabric.

Spring Makeup Essentials

Spring Makeup Essentials

I love changing my makeup with the seasons, which is why I have narrowed down my spring makeup essentials. These spring makeup essentials focus upon pink glow cheeks, full but not overdone brows, thick lashes with a small cat eye, and pink hydrated lips. This year there are a host of great new and old products to achieve this look. Since Sephora is currently hosting the spring beauty insider event - it's 10-15% off everything and it's free to join-it's a great time to clean our your makeup bag and try out something new. I know I have been waiting to buy beauty products for a few months in anticipation of getting them on sale, and can't wait to go beauty shopping on Friday!

For the face, I highly recommend a light weight foundation like the one made by Make Up Forever and a very light setting powder. Laura Mercier transluscent setting powder is the gold standard.

Don't go too heavy on the bronzer- it will look cake since our winter complexions have not yet faded. Nars Laguna is your best bet, it deposits a sheer wash of color that isn't too shimmery. On top, layer a liquid blush like Nars O or a light weight powder blush like Dior Rosy Glow (it actually color matches to your skin tone!) and don't skip on the highlighter. I love Bobbi Brown shimmer bricks or highlighting powder

The best eye makeup products for spring are a shimmery eyeshadow, volumizing mascara, and liquid eyeliner to make a subtle cat eye. The shimmery cat eye plays well with a rosy pink lip, and looks fresher than a smoky eye.

Finally, pick a rosy pink hydrating lip product. I LOVE the fresh lip products. While I love them all, the shade petal is my favorite. It adds a lovely pink color and is super moisturizing. The Dior Lip Glows are also perfect for spring, since they play up the natural color of your lip and make it brighter. A good tip is to use a light pink lipliner to make these balms last a lot longer.
